ill admit I have taken it to a car wash a few times, but i ask them to hand wash it and I stand right there and watch them like a hawk.... they limited times Iv done it, they have done a good job. But someone was telling me a couple of the local car washes have this full year deal where you pay so much, and have a year full of car washes... can take every single day if you want.... but cant be handwash, has to go through the drivethrough wash...

im wondering, are these bad for your paint, rims (maybe scrap on rails?), etc?

I took mine to a car wash for it's very first wash.

Since then, I've always done my own.

I doubt I will take it to a car wash unless it is brushless. Too much chance of the car before yours being some dirt encrusted 4x4 that would leave residue on the brushes that will next be on your truck.

My truck is a garage queen though. If I drove it every day, my opinion *might* change, but I still believe I would hand wash it.

I've never heard of a plan like that, but it wouldn't surprise me if they exist.

There are a couple of touchless automatic booths at the do-it-yourself carwash across from autozone in Mansfield that I have used when I'm too lazy to wash by hand. Not bad in a pinch or when it's cold outside.

With all the money I spent at the quarter spray yourself places, I decided to buy my own pressure washer. That way I get all the mud, road grime, rubber from slicks to come off; and then I hand wash it. Takes awhile but worth it

Hell if my g/f stays out in alvarado I might be needing to buy one as well. Last weekend my truck looked like I was in a mudding contest. All i did was drive up and down her drive 4 times. Theres still muddy water in my fogs and tons of mud stuck to my frame rails. Its all good tho, shes worth it.

Also sorry Larry, I got your wheels muddy as hell, but no scratches and i waxed them afterwards. Ill keep the pics to myself

If I am in a hurry and it is bigger than heck I pay to have it washed. I always hand washed my L's and vettes. I never wash the blue beater:nono: .

I'm the only one that washes/waxes my L, with the possible exception of Unsane. http://www.talonclub.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif

I don't trust those monkies at those drive-thru joints with my L.http://www.talonclub.com/forum/images/smilies/cool.gif

I never trust car wash monkeys or oil change place monkeys with my truck. Any work that is done is generally done by people I trust, and if it is someone that I dom not know, I am absolutely sitting right there watchin every move they make. When I had my video system put in my truck, I sat for 8 hours the first day and another two the second watching the installer. Turns out I trust that guy with any electronics I have now, and will go back to him (and him alone) for any future installs.

Bottom line, car wash monkeys (and moreso car wash machines) bad :nono: . If one of those morons drives it up to that guide rail and misjudges, you just got a scraped up rim. Also, who knows what kind of crap awaits your truck in that booth. Caress you truck like you would your woman...that is what she deserves. :D

Well - I took my 2000 to walmart for oil changes religiously. I also went thru the laser washes hundreds of times and also in a pinch went through a tunnel wash with the cloth brushes. After 80,000 miles no damage from any of that. Plenty of rock chips from driving it - But no car wash damage

I simply don't have the time anymore to hand wash my truck. Even if I did I wouldn't do it by hand if the weather is colder than 60 ....

I do the drive through touchless wash. Hand washing usually=swirls. Especially with the dark paints. I have watched the fellers handy work at the full service type car washes....not on my L, they won't...LOL. Like someone said earlier...embedded crap on the rags will swirl the sh!t out of your paint.

I have yet to hand wash mine. I found an excellent carwash in McKinney at 380 and 75 that's reasonable and very careful. It's "brushless" (uses the cloth strips), and the people there are very careful with it, and when they get a decent tip, the next time they're even better with it. :tu:

Truth is, I've never had any issues with any full-service carwash, and the only damage mine has is a couple of door-dings (parking lot rash), and some rock chips in the nose. So it's all good. :)

Yeah

I need to remember that I can use the drain on the hot water heater in the garage as a hot water spigot.. LOL

You will find that a weird sheen shows up in a day or 2 after the Mr Clean wash ... Its still a great product -

i might get banned:banned for posting this message...but...:nono:

i typically take mine to flagship carwash off of forest & 75 (1/4 mile east). i only get the exterior wash w/ wheels & tire detail. It cost $9.99 and takes about 10 minutes...and looks good. i get to stay in the vehicle while it is being washed so i know the condition of the wash before i enter. hand dried.
quick...fast...easy.

however...

i would NOT recommend their interior detailing service. they'll use way to much armor all which can ruin electronic devices if used excessivelyhttp://www.talonclub.com/forum/images/smilies/flthrow.gif.
