About 2:37A.M. last night I heard the car alarm in my brothers eclipse go off. I always thought I was a deep sleeper but I found out last night that isn't the case. Within a second or so I popped out of bed and looked out the window in time to see the passenger side door of a gold ford escort shut and it take off down the street.

I called the cops immediately one was there in less than a couple of minutes. When he stopped to talk to me he told me another cop came in the other entrance to the neighborhood at the same time so the guy couldn't get out. No damage was done so there isn't much they could do if they did catch them.

I here a bunch of storys from friends who have had breakins. One of the best deterents is a good motion light.I have 2 in the front of the house and 2 in the back. With a flick of the switch you can make them stay on all night.I also use video cameras with monitor and recorder cost about 600 bucks on e-bay.It sucks you have to live like that.Thieves are cowards and good lighting is a great deterent. Also helps to clean the guns on the front porch. :throw:

Maybe I shouldnt say this, but we live in Mayberry compared to Dallas from a thieving standpoint. This is still the place where people leave their cars unlocked, their front doors unlocked, valuables in their cars, and nothing happens. It is freakin unbelievable. :tu:
I remember when I lived in D, not that long ago, about having to close the garage door even when I was out back mowing the yard. :flaming:

Not trying to burn anyone here, its just that one of the things we do like here is the lack of crime.

My neighborhood is very safe usually. I've left my keys in my car with the doors open overnight before. I've left my garage door open over night and ocasionally when I have to run to the store. Up until now the worst thing I've had happen is some mischievious kids throwing eggs at my old truck. But Mansfield has doubled in size in the past 3-4 years so it's inevitible that some more crime comes along with that.

When I used to live in Anaheim, CA, my living area wasn't so great. I had my car stolen once and broken into a different time.

One night, I woke up hearing some noises from the carport area, which happened to be right behind the bedroom window. I got up and looked and I could hear noises from below and a guy was pacing back and forth looking at the entrance to the complex.

I jumped up and put on some clothes and ran across the street to the fire department and asked them if they could contact the police. They did and not long later, an officer drove up. He walked down the short flight of stairs and caught the guys redhanded.

Unfortunately, the two guys were repo guys coming for one of my neighbor's car. :o

Holly Lake !!!!! Oh man...that brings back memories...about 10-15 years worth..:D .

Don't get to feeling to safe and secure out there. My ex-father-in-law owned two different homes out there, one on each side..(you should know what I mean by this). Anywho...he was broken into three times over a ten year period. Seems it happens out there alot more than folks realize. The evil part of the community, out there, is kept on the down-low by the local security and time share owners. Crime isn't good for business...:nono: .

Just a heads up for you:tu: .

Something's fishy about that one T-Dog. Looks like an insurance job to me. :rll: :rll: :rll: Come on, what legit thief would go through gates to attempt such a thing, much less take the time to grab a few beautiful landscape stones to sit it on.......... :rll: :rll: :rll:

You need to watch the Discovery show, "It Takes a Theif"... that'll wake you up to the reality that you and your neighbors are setting yourselves up for a major fall. If I were a professional thief, I'd see that post as a "COME ON IN, IT'S RIPE FOR THE PICKIN'!!" sign, and I'd clean y'all out in a hurry!

Lesson is: NEVER, EVER leave ANYTHING unlocked, even for that "quick trip" to the store!

Watch "It Takes a Theif", it's a real eye-opener. :tu:

thanks, I'll try to queue it up on Tivo and get it. Oh, and I would do the same thing. Its weird how you build up those good anti-thief habits only to see them erode away pretty quickly in a place like Erie.

Jason,
My G1 was broken into just around the corner from you (off Cancun) last night.
They pryed on the vent window till it broke and stuck their arm through to unlock the drivers door.

They rummaged through everything, tried to remove the stereo but couldn't get it so they just ripped the detachable face plate off- like that is going to do them any good. PHOCKERS:flaming:

This is really starting to piss me off. I've lived in my neighborhood for over 5 years now. It's about 20 years old with large lots and home owners who really take pride in their houses. Never had any problems before, But now they connected us to the new neighborhood with about 4 ft between the houses and owners that don't give a crap about anything like their homes or who they allow their kids to associate with. Now we have all this riff-raff comming through the neighborhood stealing and vandelizing.

That sucks Steve, did you call the cops and report it? If you didn't please do.

Sorry to hear the bad-news, Steve! http://www.talonclub.com/forum/images/smilies/mad.gif I hope all works out to your satisfaction.

I don't like it any more than you, but the typical PD seems to be unconcerned with vehicular thefts/vandalisms. http://www.talonclub.com/forum/images/smilies/cool.gif

Been there, done that.

Once when we lived in South Grand Prairie someone opened my dads tool box in the back of his truck and stole some of his tools. He wanted to make a sign to put in the front yard that said "Come and try to steal something else!!" My mom wouldn't let him do it. He wanted to stay up all night and bust a cap on someone. I gave him a car cover when I sold him the mustang so I'm trying to convince him to cover the car at night so that maybe it won't attract any attention since its black and has chrome wheels.
