Ok, here what I have.
I have a desktop computer with Comcast cable modem hook up to it.I have a Linksys wireless hook up to that, so my wife can use her wireless laptop internet anywhere around the house.

I bought a new printer and installed all the software to the desktop and I can now print/scan etc. from the desktop system.
What do I need to do to get my wife' s laptop to print/scan etc. from anywhere from around the house? Please tell me step by step, I never installed printer to a network. This sound easy to do.Just don't know. Thanks

You could go and buy a print server, but from my experience those things are flimsy at best. Sometimes mine would print, sometimes it wouldn't.

What I do is I have printer that connects directly to my desktop via usb. Then I share that printer out from my desktop. My desktop has to be powered up for other computers to print, but it works great. For more detail you will have to tell us what OS you are running on each computer.

Both computers are using XP . I have the printer connected to the desktop using a USB cord. How do I get the wireless laptop to print documents without having to direct connect usb cord from laptop to printer. This should be easy but I never did this before.

As sandman said you haveto "share" the printer

Then connect to the shared printer on the desktop -Dont have tyime now to write up a step by step - Try googling for sharing printers - or try searching for XP printer sharing - on support.Microsoft.com

Here is a decent write up of how to share and then connect from a network computer.

If you don't have a firewall, skip that part.

Other than that, google "share printer xp" and it should give you a lot of hits.
