Hmm... a couple of HS kids with a totalled brand-new RED Viper and they don't know if speed was a contributing factor or the fact that the deceased wasn't wearing a seatbelt? http://www.talonclub.com/forum/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif
Those Vipers weren't made just for leisurely trips to the Dairy Queen on Sunday afternoon. http://www.talonclub.com/forum/images/smilies/cool.gif

I have seen more than one instance where a parent put there kid in a death machine. You aren't doing them a favor with cars like that... One local officer bought his 16yr old daughter a CObra. He ended up responding to the accident that killed her and two friends. She was speeding, hydroplaned and crossed into oncoming traffic. A semi cut the Corba into two pieces.

Some folks just don't appreciate the fact that it takes more than average common sense to manage that kind of power. :nono:

In all seriousness....I love power and performance these cars have
However, they are NOT the kind you can just pay 75% attention while driving them... they demand virtually ALL of your attention to keep them safely in the lines.
As for the cars safety, some of you may have seen the Gumball rally Viper that wrecked at 140+...both driver and passenger survived that gruesome carnage.... A car can only be made so safe...the rest really needs to be the driver.
It is estimated that 1/3 or more of all Vipers end up totaled, and as much as 1/2 of them end up with reconditioned titleshttp://www.talonclub.com/forum/images/smilies/frown.gif
These will be the exact type issues that will undoubtedly bring about the second and eventual end to this generations horsepower wars IMHOhttp://www.talonclub.com/forum/images/smilies/bash.gif

I'm with you... the safeniks are gonna legislate the life out of sport cars, and make us all drive Prius'es with tires hung around them like a tugboat. :Bullshit

Here's the Torquenstein/Viper crash on the Gumball 3000 run in Morocco. Evidently, the car hits several "rub-boards" which lifted the rear wheels off the road and upsets the whole steering/tracking geometry.
Unfortunately, it looks like that's all it took to send the Viper off-course and end-over-end.

You got it. History repeats itself, and we'll see an end to the current horsepower wars just like we did in the early 70's. Then there will be a 20 drought before life starts to get interesting again.

I have a standing invitation to run the race below as a navigator. I declined this year, maybe I'm getting less macho, but the open road race guys seem to crash big.

Yeah, I prefer a track myself. Slow is safe when it comes to public roads:tu: .

I'm the same way, I don't understand how driver's like Stan and others handle that extreme top-end racing. I suppose that's the "discipline" needed.
Garett,
That whole torquenstein site isn't working properly. Here's an edited / lower-quality version of the original: http://home.comcast.net/~mybabyhimi/Movie.wmv (http://home.comcast.net/%7Emybabyhimi/Movie.wmv)
