This morning when I turned on the heater, it was fine, then after driving about 12 miles I stopped at a store, turned off the truck, when I started it again with the heater on It smelled like burnt oil for a minute, I mean burnt to, almost like gear oil smell.
I checked, no leaks, no oil in water or vice-versa. Anyone know where this could come from??

It's not a sweet, anti-freeze smell???
If it is than I think it may be your heater core.

Head gaskets?
I agree with this diagnosis. Do you have some kind of oil separator mod?

I am thinking oil vapors from the breathers leaking down on the exhaust manifolds, headers? What have you done with the rest of the PCV system?

Its just the vapor itself. No signs on my headers... Ive talked to others that did the same as me and they get the smell.. Most of the time its after a good drive, i turn the truck off for a bit and restart it...

thanks, I believe you could be right about oil vapor, I just recently added a breather on the drivers side to keep oil out of the intake.
I will keep a close eye on water and oil though for awhile. It would make sense that it seems like gear oil, I use synthetic, and the vapor in the valve cover would be pretty rank.

did you do the breather mod that had been posted up on nloc?
