Found this picture today. 69 Torino, Grandmom's car, stolen in Philly at school 3 weeks later. I told my dad to give me the VW in the background, which he did three weeks later. The lime green Country Squire...we are pretty sure wound up being modified for Chevy Chase's Vacation movie.:)

I owned a 72 super beetle, wasnt much of a car but it was the first and only thing ive had a title for. Friend gave it to me i was going to tinker with it. But like all vws they like to rust and this beetle had rust holes on every inch of the body soon as i starting taking it apart. After i sat for a year in the back yard a friends boss took it for a parts car.

See thumbnail, 72 regular beetle, but it had the most powerful engine and the good case.
1850 cc motor went in when I was in college and Mom stated "What have you done to that car?...Twin carbs, cam, exhaust:)

My first Ford was a Pinto Country Squire Station Wagon.. used to ArmorAll that fake wood siding.. had an 8 track in it and cold air.. the back seat stayed down all the time. It was the machine to drive to Galveston beach back in my day.. :nana2
My first car was a Pontiac Tempest with a small block 350 and a Powerglide transmission (two speed power).. removed the mufflers and put Cherry Bombs on it. The distributor had a bad lobe so it would have a bit of a lope to it when it idled.. sounded bad but wasnt..
My first "sport" car was an Opel GT.. with air.. loved it even though it would hydroplane all the time.. dangerous as anything I have ever driven.. but it turned heads..
These are my :ron:

Dana,
Your first car beats mine. It was a 1983 Chevy Citation X-11. Back then it was an ok car, but since the big-3 didn't make _anything_ worth owning in the early 80s (in retrospect, of course), I chuckle at it now. Funny thing is that I put 88k on that car... more than any other vehicle I've owned since. ;)

Wes,
Oh, I dont know.. I tried to count how many cars I have and stopped somewhere around 30 or so.. I also had a Vega Station Wagon too.. bought for $200 drove it for a year or so and sold it for the same amount of money. It was an automatic transmission too. At least the Pinto was a stick. I think it had the fake wood siding on it too.. I have owned some real POS cars in my day, but they got me from point A to point B. I had a Mercury Marquis Broughm that I really liked.. Hated the Subura Station Wagon, LOVED the Mazda B2000 with a stick and bench seat.. drove the bejeebers out of it.
The Dodge Daytona Turbo Z was a GREAT GREAT car for the day, fast and fuel efficient. I had a Vista Cruiser like on That 70's show too.. Wow all this :ron: is making me nostalgic :crying:

Hey Tex, I loved those Cougars, a bud of mine had one and it was a nice pimpin' ride :tu:

I really haven't driven/owned that many cars compared to most of you
72 Beetle, 1850cc motor in 80, (Dad got it back in 83 and keep it till 93, I think he liked it)
69 Torino, stolen in 3 weeks
83 EXP, 6 months, drove to Texas and got rid of ASAP.
72 Porsche in 83, still have.
74 Chevy stepside PU, 383, with a small blower. Stayed hooked to the boat 90% of the time, while I drove the Porsche.
88 Blazer in 90, still have.
2000 L, still have
A couple of bikes along the way too.
I guess I don't meet the average of 4 years owning a car.

Yeah, it was cooler than a Escort, on which it was based on.
It was the dealer's trophy wife's car, she took me on a test drive, she "influenced" me to purchase. It is one of those Penthouse stories that no one would believe(you have to remember the 80's).
Wasn't cool at all when I got to Texas in the 80's, so I bought the 911.:)

Mark,
I've had only a few more vehicles than you have.
'83 Citation X-11
'90 Mustang 5.0 (kept this til '02)
'94 L
'96 Cobra (sold '94 L to buy this)
'99 L
'98 Saleen S351 (sold '96 Cobra to buy this)
'02 Z06 (sold S351 to buy this)
'69 Vette (bought this a few months after selling my 5.0)
'04 L (sold '99L for this)
Looking at this list, I can say their have only been a few vehicles that I really enjoyed and decided to keep for awhile. The '90 Mustang, the Gen 2 L's and the Z06. The rest just didn't do enough for me to warrant keeping. I don't count my wife's vehicles that I've bought since we've been married. She's had 4-5 in 15 years. But this '00 Expedition... unless gas gets up to $4/gal, I will have a hard time getting her to let me trade it.
Some of these guys who buy a showroom new vehicle and sell it within 6-8 months, and do this perpetually...I don't know how they do it and stay afloat. They must just make a lot more $$ than I do. ;)

Hey Tex, I loved those Cougars, a bud of mine had one and it was a nice pimpin' ride :tu:
When I got it, I was rather embarrassed, 'cuz I REALLY wanted a '68 Mustang fastback. :( Mine was sky-blue, with a blue on silver-blue interior, the floor shifter (oh, how cool I thought that was!) and console, the 2bbl 351 Cleveland, C6 tranny, the 9x15alloy Rally wheelsand a limited-slip 9" diff. It was a HUGE b*tch, but it had really nice proportions, fairly decent handling (especially when I tossed on a set of nice Yokohama's on it), and when I put the 4-bbl on it, pretty good power. Ran down to Port Aransas one year, and pulled 20+ MPG at 75mph in the rain the trip down; the trip back was quite a bit worse, but mostly because we were doing 90+, with 120mph passes on US77. :eek2: During that week, my friend got his 4wd Blazer stuck in the sand, and it was the Cougar that pulled him out; we'd drive down the beach, and my roommate would get on the hood and "surf", and we'd slam the brakes and toss him off the end of the car; and we went "trashcan hunting for fun and profit".:rll:
Okay, it was fun to *me*, but I spent the entire week drunk and stoned; hell, the morning we came back, my breakfast consisted of a couple of beers and M&Ms. My roommate had mixed up 5 gallons of screwdrivers, and was drinking them constantly; one morning, as he was gettgin his morning screwdriver, one of the chicks with us said "I'm surprised you're not eating beer and cornflakes (she was being a bit snooty), so he took a swig, grabbed the beer and some cornflakes, and sat down and ate a bowl. Most of us were laughing, a couple got a bit ill at the thought!! :rll:
Alright, ROcks, [/:ron:], you can get back to the thread!

Some may not think this but being of age and single in the 80's was a pretty good time. I graduated from college in '79 and can tell quite a few stories. Remember this was before AIDS... Things were pretty good and loose back then. knana
I had a few of those kinds of moments as well as Animal House kind of moments with the guys too.. :evil

Dennis, don't say that man!! Live a lil', Own a Stang!!
I have owned only a few cars, especially since I put a lot of money into the performance ones. My first car was a '68 Pontiac LeMans (a GTO Judge wannabe) I bought for $250 my Sr year in HS in 1977. It had been sideswiped from bumper to bumper on driver side.Got it fixed and painted, put some hi-jackers air shocks under the rear,G70's on front & H60's raised white letters on back, dual exhaust with Thurst mufflers and a hang down 8 track.Kept it till I bought '76 Chevy Laguna S-3 in 1980. It had a 350 w/ 4 barrel quadrajet, white swivel bucket seats with in dash am-fm 8 track until I changed it out to a cassette in '82.Kept this car till I went active Army in '84-'85. Was stationed in Germany drove a 316 BMW until bought my first Ford in 1988 ,an '87 Escort GT. Drove the Escort GT my next year in Germany, shipped it back stateside in '89.Before I left Germany I ordered my '89 Mustang GT for stateside pickup @ Payton-Wright Ford(I was stationed @ Ft Hood in Killeen and never hear of Grapevine,I'm not from Tx)Got my Mustang GT and started to modify it and got into drag racing in 1989.Kept that Mustang GT until 1997. I bought my current Mustang,a '95 GT in '97 for my 37th birthday and still have it through 5 engines, stock 302,a built 306,a 2nd built 306,a 308,and currently a built &
stroked 331.It dropped a cylinder a few weeks ago so its out and my crew chief has it.In 1997 I bought a '91 Ranger as a daily driver and kept it till '01 and traded it in on my current Lightning. I also bought a '96 Sable in '03 to use as a daily driver now.I also bought a few Tauras & Sables for my mom and oldest daughter. So thats my :ron:
'95 Mustang GT SC 331ci 622hp 1997-present
'96 Mercury Sable daily driver 2003-present
'00 Lightning near stock 2001-present
