I've started thinking about LFest for 05 and thought I'd post up. It's time to start collecting that cash to get your sorry asses up to KC for three days of fun with the fellars. Last year's partying was the shiznit! This year should be just as intense. Who's going??

L Fest fee is around $75 or so (to bring your truck inside the gates, regardless of the activities you are participating in...even if you are just there to hang out, if you want to bring your truck on the grounds you need to pay up) and whatever the hotel andyour eating requirements are. Don't forget about $200 or so for gas there and back. I usually blow upwards of $500 or so for the trip, but I also room with a few people as well to split the cost.
Crawford, so long as nothing comes up you can be my pit bitch! Don't forget the DVD porn for the trip up!!

I may have problems getting to do L-Fest. FFW has decided to add California and Arizona as point races. They are going to make them the first two races of the 2006 season, so if I don't make these 2 events, I won't stand a chance in 2006.
We shall see, but it will be a last minute deal if I do decide to go.

The problem has to do with other events as well. I have N.H. then two weeks later...I have Kansas....the next weekend is Ennis....the next would be L-Fest...the very next would then be California. That is alot of places in a row without a weekend to rest.
I may do it, but it will depend on my energy level at that point.

Well, I think we will have a pretty good family turnout this year. I was talking to Ivanhoe and Razor will be bringing his lightning and running with us to Kansas City. Me and Tobbun will be making the trip in our 94 Gen 1. I think my Grandson, Trayson is going to be coming with us and I will put him up against any of you X-box Guys at racing! lol He will be 6 in January! The X-box will be set up in our room like last year! I think the Sixer is bringing his Go_rila but maybe Wimpy as well! Hopefully Ronnie will have his Black Gen 1 up and running and he will be in our Talon Caravan. So, if Ronnie makes it that will be 5 Lightnings from our little group, 3 Gen 1's and 2 Gen 2's.

Try right at $800.00 gross per week. $590.00 a week net(bring home) is $2360.00 a month. To a salaried employee, single with no dependents, that's pretty damn close to a base starting salary of b/w $36K-$38K/yr. When you figure there's a bonus structure on top of that, then that ain't no punk.
I started in the home building industry with a fresh College Degree at $27K which came out to right at $1850.00/month after taxes, just for comparison.

Past two years we stayed at the event hotel and it was good. They have a roped-off area where all the Lightning owners park and generally we attract several other owners to our late night partying activity, which is cool. I'd rather stay at the same hotel with the rest of the owners than trying to stay somewhere else and being antisocial...there's more to LightningFest than just the stuff at the track.:tu:

Mark,I haven't thought about it much. My truck seems to be the most consistent running around 11.1x-11.3x. From what you asked a minute ago about heads up class? Is there not a bracket class for low elevens?
I can pully it up with more boost and switch to my most agressive tune and maybe get some 10.7x's, but I can't run consistent that fast at all. It get's too easy to spin on the launch and there goes my 60 ft times. Problem is, I don't think this is fast enough for the heads up class. I expect to see a few folks hitting low 10's and high nines.

It is installed in the valve body and is controlled by an electrical switch that is located and controlled by the driver. It locks first gear and reverse together, keeping the load off the rear end. You mash the gas pedalto the floor once staged. You are now building boost up to around 10lbs or more. When the third yellow lights...you release the button. All that power moves straight to the rear end and off you go like a bullet.
Upside is that your finger is quicker than your foot(better lights). another upside is that you will get better 60's from launchng with more boost than you could on a foot break....this in turn can knock 2 tenths or more off your ET.
Downside is real bad....if you are making the kind of HP that you and I make, the shock to the rear end can rip it to pieces...and drive shaft breaking may even happen. If this starts to happen to the gen 2 L's, we will have to figure out some way of beefing up the rear end.....maybe ladder bars? I dunno how to make it tougher. Maybe go with a 9 inch rear end and put some serious clutches in it.

Ron, what I don't understand is how you can build more boost? Boost is function of RPM, the convertor is still in the system right? So you are just loading the torque convertor up either way right? So the same RPM to stall.

Try calling the hotel. It was booked up when I tried to register on-line, so I called the hotel and told them I needed a room for Lightning Fest and I was told they still had plenty of rooms. This was last Wednesday. Good Luck

Thanks Curtis. The direct number for the hotel is 816-350-3000. Using a Hilton Rewards reservation or calling the Hilton national reservation number or going online all show the hotel to be full. Rooms are still available under the Lightningfest block, but there aren't many left according to facility reservations. I suggested that the hotel management notify Hilton national reservations and online service unless they want people to start reserving rooms elsewhere. Almost waited too late. http://www.nloc.net/forum/images/smilies/coolgleam.gif

Pro Truck is 11.99 and faster and it is heads up.

Last I heard the hotel is filling up, so book ASAP.
As far as registration, you can pay when you get there if you wish, and registration includes one truck, driver and one other person (fondly referred to as "pit bitch" by us!), so if you are both driving up in the same vehicle, you just pay the one registration. If you are in seperate trucks, then you will need to have two registrations and he can pay up when he gets there.
Glad to see we have some new folks planning to go up! Keep it locked here for updated info on the convoy.

I agree, my boss and I were discussing the same at lunch today, $66 a barrel and no end in sight. I don't know what is going to change the trend, anything bad that happens only makes it go higher. China demand continues, hell they tried to buy an oil company.

It's looking more and more likely that I will be able to go. I didn't want to commit earlier because I didn't know what my schedule would be like. This will be my first LFest. I don't know if I want to race for fear of destroying something that far away from home, but I haven't decided yet.
Is anybody looking for another person to split the cost of a room that can put up with me?
What days do I need to take off? (if this has been answered, I'm sorry, this thread is getting long and I didn't read all 7 pages)

Jason,
I know there were a few looking for a roomie. I'm sure someone will speak up. We will be convoying up on Thursday, Sept 22 and coming back whenever (everything finishes up on Sunday, and most people stick around until Sunday morning and take off that morning). The event starts Friday morning and ends Sunday some time. Believe me when I tell you won't regret going whether you race or not. I'm glad you decided to attend!

I'm guessing 2 tanks to get there 2 tanks back @ $3/gal. thats $300, plus hotel costs, food and Lfest cost, I'm looking @ a safe estimate of $575-$600 for this event. :crying: :crying: BUT I'M GOING IF ALL IS WELL!!!,After my aunt's passing last year I know things may change in a hurry. Well my father-in law lost his fight with cancer this past Tuesday. So right now as I said a month ago I don't know if I will make it. It all depends on how well my wife takes this as well as BJ. He's gone to the past 2 with me just to go and be among the L's and other Ford guys and "stuff". He mentioned it to me yesterday and I told him I had reservations but I wouldn't press the issue with him at a time like this. He's unsure also right now. So if I don't go I'll give my reservation info to someone. I'll post before then.

Thanks for all the thoughts & comments fellers!! :)
This has been a trying time for my in-laws the past several months. He had been battling cancer for 10 years or longer. It was in remission for a few years after all the treatments. Then it attacked him again and there was a few treatments the past 3 months but they discovered it had spread throughout his body and nothing could be done. He was on hospice care for past month until he passed away. :crying: He had been married to my mom-in-law for over 51 years so its a big loss in her life. :crying:
Thanks again for all your thoughts & comments. :tu:
