might be a dumb question but i just changed my oil today and i was looking at the dip stick and it would barely come to the half way between low and full. is this normal? i used 6 quarts of mobile 1.

its normal for some oil loss betwen a oil change. usualy its a quart or less. you should be fine.

maybe I'm wrong, but it is actually about 6 1/2 quarts to fill our truck. maybe even a tad more.

What weight oil did you use? 6 quarts of 5w-30 gets mine to the full mark every time. I tried some 0w-30 one time and it needed 6 3/4 quarts....maybe there was less in the bottles or something....go figure

hmm... i used 10w-30 and last time i changed it i used the exact same and it was fine and i double checked if the filter was on and screw was in before i filled it up so there was no loss of oil. guess ill just add a little more. thanks guys

It is about 6.4 on a change with decent draining. 7+ on a new dry engine.

6 qts and mine is right on the mark. I either have a rare truck or I don't put my foot in it as much as the others... In the beginning when I first went to synth oil I used to get an occassional puff of blue when I started it. But it stopped over time.
Very seldom do I check it between changes (3,000 miles) but when I do... it's so close to the mark I never think of it.

Mine's just like yours: hardly consumes ANY oil, and even after a decent draining (warm 'er up, and let the last drips drain out), 6 quarts puts it right on the "Full" mark, even with pre-filling the oil filter.
AND this is despite the oil slick in the intake boot. knana
