Well, who is going to watch the race tomorrow? The boys on Bridgestones still dont look too good as of qualifying on Friday. Kimi has a great car but hasnt been able to get good points for the last 4 weeks. Alonso has such a good lead now that he just has to hold on and finish races to claim the championship this year. Ferrari is virtually out of the hunt for much of anything meaningful unless there are some others that just dont finish races.

On a brighter note, the wife and I have tickets to the USGP in Indianapolis next week knana knana . We have preferred parking and a hotel room for Sat and Sunday nights. Driving back home on Monday. Also a new XM Roady so we can listen to satellite radio on the way there and back too :tu: .. Taking the camera and will try to get some good pics if we can. This will be my first F1 race to attend, been to NHRA and ChampCar (formerly IndyCar), Supercross and a few other kinds. Oops almost forgot, covered seats too :bows , in case of rain. BTW, the tickets are not cheap. :eek2: :crying:

Going to tthe IRL race today, I alsways seem to catch the race on Speed when they either replay odr do the hi-lites.
Enjoy the USGP, if it is as good as the one that was in TX back in teh 80's you will love it. For the TX race I had one of the best spots for the start. We were standing at ground level at the first corner of the start. When those guys come at you all at once from the dead start, there is no other way to describe it but Awesome! We also wandered around the track during the race to see the different spots. if you can do that you should.

You were there??? Damn, so was I, and right where you were at the start!! :eek2: Right after that, after a couple laps, we made our way back to our seats (my roommate and I), and with about 10 laps left, we made our way back to start/finish, and saw Mansell push his car across the line, then pass out!! :eek2:

The one I was really envious of was my (then) future wife, who had seats in the BMW/Ferrari tent at start/finish... :o I tried to talk her out of 'em, but she wasn't having any of that... :(

Despite the heat, despite the track issues, that was one great race. Too bad they couldn't pull it together again.

yep. was at the start when Mansell was pusing, too. we were at the chicane and saw piquet and senna go in nose to tail, with I think Piquet ending up giving him a little push. it was a great race! wish that could do it again

:vomit: I just realized that tomorrows race will be on CBS rather than Speed. :bs :vomit: :vomit: :flaming:

I will at least keep the timing going on the laptop while the race is on :tu:

Yes, but apparently a little Quikcrete was all she needed.. :evil

If you watched the post qualifying interviews, the drivers were pretty good about not focusing on it.

A little coaching by Bernie not to mention the track issues?

How barfalicious... :vomit:

So what's the deal with the track? Is it disinegrating like it did in Dallas in '84? :nono:

It has a new surface and in some of the sharp corners, where there is little to no banking, the pressures created by the tires was causing some breakup in the new surface. So they filled it in with "quick drying cement" (quickcrete). It appears to have worked, the issue for some is that the cement is really a different surface (more slippery) than the asphalt elsewhere.

Watch the race on delay on Speed and I am sure they will talk about it. Whether the dolts on CBS can speak to it intelligently is another whole issue.

Is this the beginning of a Ferrari comeback? They finish 2-3 with Barricello making his way through the entire field since he started in pit lane.

Although, the black flag of Montoya, the retirement of the Renaults, didnt hurt any.

At least I have hope for my boy Michael S next week at the USGP.

I knew I shouldn't've clicked this... now the suspense is gone. :(

Sounds exactly like what happend in Dallas in '84, they fell behind on the course work (or just flat misjudged it), and the asphalt didn't cure properly, so it disintegrated in the turns, and they had to toss some epoxy-based concrete in the holes, just like here.

Actually, asphalt is slipperier than concrete, especially fresh asphalt; but when you consider that F1 tires are so specialized, they probably are built to adhere to asphalt better than concrete.

I may wait for the Speed replay, I started to watch the race live today, but had to run (was recording it), and the main announcer is an asshat to start with, and should be shot; the other guy is an ex racer, but he was doing his damnedest to dumb it down, and not too well.

I may watch the asshat broadcast, just to see the race...

When American sports fans and legislators get up in arms over scandals such as Janet Jackson's Super Bowl striptease, the rest of the world chuckles at our prudery. Consider the comments (http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2005270032,00.html) of Scottish Formula 1 driver David Coulthard as Exhibit A of the wider parameters enjoyed by our colleagues overseas. At the Canadian Grand Prix, a female TV reporter asked the driver if he had practiced using a new button that controls a car's speed before it emerges from the pits. Coulthard replied, on live TV, "Yeah, I have. I've been imagining it's your nipples so I'm being a bit more gentle when I take my finger off." The reporter then giggled and sent it back to the studio. Imagine all the hand-wringing Stateside if the same comment had been uttered by, say, Jeff Gordon.

You think Jeff Gordon might be more interested in David Coultard's nipples? :evil

Despite the "Jeff Gordon's gay" country song, I believe that his divorce was a result of a fling with Britney Spears.:tu:
