Exhaust cutouts... good idea or bad?

Ever since I saw the copperhead special on Trucks with electric cutouts... I thought this was pretty cool.

I like the stock sound but every now and then I think being able to kick it up a bit would be awesome especially if you can return to the stock sound quickly.

I think adding these before the mufflers with a splitter and pipe bypassing the muffler and coming back in before the exhaust tips so everything comes out the stock pipes... would be cool.

I dint know if there is enough room to come back in or not but... it's just a thought.

Comments? I don't think anyone has done this in the DFW area.

I've always been partial to header dumps, as we called 'em in the old days. Nice way to eliminate alot of restriction quickly. Some people will argue that they break down and rust and such, but as long as the material is decent, and your installation is good, they could be alot of fun. Of course, for REAL performance, the motor should be tuned to the dumps, not the mufflers. ;)

Those electric cut outs are know for not closing all the way as they get older. Also few friends have used them and tried to run both off one switch and it never worked right.... I would go with the old school ones with the 3 wing nuts

it all depends on how much you want to pay, the three wing nuts are cheap and work but a pain to get under to take them off, some electronic ones work, others don't, at Fastech I was qouted 450 per cutout (electronic), Sean said these were the ones that would always shut, no problem, he runs them on his drag SS (cutouts are so if he wants to run it on the streets)

I read the FAQ's on the vendors site... I know, they may be biased but... the leaking issue is there with one vendor although there is a maintenance cycle that will prevent it and the other uses a material that doesn't fatigue over time like most.

I guess it is just like any product... time and technology just makes them better.

I really like the idea of quite and then loud at the push of a button.
