hello all, i saw this board and it seemed pretty cool. anyway, i have been debating selling my lightning to get something different. anyone in here done this and then later wished they hadnt. it is my fun vehicle so it doesnt get driven much. was thinking of getting a cobra, anyone had both, which is more fun to drive? gets more looks? have a great weekend all

If you're looking for opinions, you came to the right place....there is no lack of opinions here! We have had several sell their trucks and later regret it, but that comes with the territory. I have not done that though. A Cobra might be fun, but I really like the utility I have with my truck, plus it's fun to whoop up on "fast" cars in a pick-em-up-truck. IMO, if you can keep it financially, keep it. No regrets that way.

My opinion is that Lightnings look best in black. If you have another color, I'd sell it.

The fastest lightnings are RED, have been, will be.
Contrary to what Sixpipes says, if it isn't red --- sell --- I would not be a buyer:cool:

I even thought about selling the L and going with a cobra but what I would do to it would not be a DD car. So I stick with the Lightning and have the best of both worlds like tom brought up.

well, it isnt black, so i guess i should sell it, haha. the wife keeps telling me to put some money into it and i will enjoy it more. if you were gonna drop 2500 into it, what would you guys do????? it has been lowered 2" in back, 20 in rims, exhaust, and stereo upgrades. what would be the most i could do to pull some more horsepower out of the motor with that money. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y157/coleman231/100_0692.jpg

Port the Blower and add either a 4# or 6# lower and a dyno tune.

My research has come up with ~430+rwhp/520+rwtq safely with a ported blower, 6# pulley, exhaust, CAI and a _good_ tune (take it to Terry...once you start making more "custom" type mods like this, a local tuner is the only way to go, IMHO).
Since my L is my daily driver, I'm happy with 390+rwhp/490+rwtq from just a 4# pulley, CAI, aftermarket heat exchanger (something I think is critical in the TX heat, although some will disagree), and a Magnaflow catback (probably worth nothing more than the aggressive sound).
I have owned a Gen 2 L since mid-99. They are great trucks. But I do understand your thoughts about getting a Cobra or a performance car vs. keeping the truck. My biggest issue with my truck are 2+ seats and the crappy gas mileage. I'm not sure a Cobra would do any better. The rear 2 seats are worthless except for kids (mine would do ok) and the gas mileage would be only marginally better.
You've got a nice looking truck. My '99 was white. Great color.
