This car is sick! Definitely done right. One of the nicest I've seen. I just don't think I would be able to keep my truck and buy this. LOL

Heck, the bidding for that car already went over their "buy it now" price. It's nearly $40k. I'll pass. Guess the truck stays with me. :d

Meh. Just my preference, but if I am shopping for a car that old, I want it stock, and very collectible.

Yeah, I understand that too. I just like resto-mods better than original or concourse, original restorations.
From my point of view a stock, original car will not be nearly as much fun to drive and enjoy. It will certainly be worth more, but points distributors, original wiring, crappy steering and handling, low power... none of that excites me enough to spend the huge $$ it would cost to have something like that in excellent condition.
But as a collector, it has more value than a resto-mod.

Damn...I thought about bidding on it. But 40K is a bit much. What was the buy it now price?

$38,495 is what the guy told me. It obviously wasn't a true "BIN", but that's what they would have taken before the auction went higher.
It is a very cool car. Someone will really enjoy it.
Thing is, I don't know if you could find a nicer 4-seat "sports car" convertible for less.

I would have to agree Wes. That fricking car is sweet. The frame looks rust free from what I could see of it in the pics.
Thinking about it, if they where to make that car today, you would pay in the forty range. Heck...look at what folks are paying for the Mustang GT. The GT can't come close to out classing that car.
It should be interesting seeing how high it goes. I bet it hits the high forties or maybe even 50 before it is over.

Rocks,
That's exactly how I look at it... what it would cost to buy a car like that off the showroom floor today.
Now, I'm sure its not 100% perfect. In fact, some of the interior dash pieces have not been restored and show some wear. But, I think its worth every bit of $40k. I'm just not going to pay it. ;)
But thinking back to when a new '03-04 Cobra convertible was new and cost $40k MSRP... this car is 100x better than those, and could be as fast or faster with just a little work (if you even wanted to make it faster). :D

I may be nuts, but I was thinking about bidding 42. I really believe it is going to go way higher than that but I plan to keep an eye on it.
Nice find, my fricking childhood dream car, with some darned nice upgrades. Talk aout cruising around looking cool. Then you can get on it and really surprise their arses. Maybe a centrifugal super charger for the track...LOL. Christ...I would loose control and end up needing another darned roll cage.
Gawd I love my second childhood:d .

Yep, first thing I'd do is add a Vortech S-trim blower. 8-10psi and this combo would make a conservative 450rwhp and not wimper a bit.

That is one crazy project.... . I can't wait to see it completed.
I have looked at a few of the older Stangs the past year or so. The rusted frames is what scared me off every time. I have a fear of spending 30 K on a vehicle and then having it fold in half when I hit the first bump in the road...;) .
That is a pretty cool project. It must be nice to have access to a full blown body/chassis repair shop.

Yes it did. They must've contacted the high bidders and found them to be flakey or something.
I know they will take $38.4k for it. I don't think its worth that much, but maybe low-$30s.
