Riding Lawn Mower question

I’m probably going to have to buy a new riding lawn mower. Does anybody have any recommendations of what kind to buy? I mow about 2.5 acres and I mow a lot! OCD about the property. I was looking at a John Deere, but figured I get some other opinions first. Thanks for your help.

Like you, I mow alot. The yard is about 1.5 acres, and when I mow the bar ditches (about every other week) that's probably another 3 acres. My old mower wan an MTD, and I never did like it. For the first couple of years every time I used it a nut or bolt would fall off somewhere. After I eventually replaced everything with Nylok nuts parts stopped falling off, but I never did feel like the MTD was made for the kind of mowing I do. My next door neighbor has a John Deere L120, and after 2.5 years he's got over 300 hours on it. He's been very happy with it, and I used his several times to mow his place when he was sick, and I liked the L120 also. So, I bought an L120 this spring, and with a little over 50 hours on it I've been happy with mine also. The L120 has been discontinued, but the new L118 is basically the same thing, just a little smaller cutting deck. Good luck, but at this point I'm sold on the JD's.

I would recomend a John Deere over anything else.

Nothing runs like a Deere:tu: . I am not sure what the warreties are out there but it is still a hassle to take stuff to town for fixin'. Sometimes the different retailers offer extras like a tow behind etc so look for the freebies. Whatever you get make sure it is automatic Of course the real pimps roll Dixie Choppers

We have been mowing our front yard and driveway (~4acres for about 4 years now with a Deere LX277 --- change the oil, change the filters, give it some grease and it keeps on running. And the cruise control with a hydramatic transmission is really helpful.

Cathy, I'm in a similar predicament, having to mow 2.3 acres (see here (http://www.talonclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7129&highlight=home) for my thread on my "new" house, and a nice aereal photo of it), with two LONG bar ditches, and lots of trees. And at $130 a pop, the yard guys weren't gonna last long, so I snagged a John Deere GT235:

According to Epinion s.com (http://www.epinions.com/hmgd-Lawn_and_Garden-Power_Tools-Mowers-John_Deere-GT_Lawn_Tractors-John_Deere_GT235_Tractor/display_~full_specs), it's highly rated. It's good for up to 5 acres, can run a 48" or 54" deck (I've got the 48", but I wish I opted for the 54"), can take a trailer, a tank sprayer, a trunk, a snowplow, and a mulcher kit as attachments. It's got a good sized fuel tank; and with the hydramatic autotrans, it's a breeze to drive.

If the JD is under warrenty and you bought it at a Home Depot, you can bring it in and we then call the JD local reps. and they come out and pick it up and take it to there shop and fix it and bring it back to us. You may also be able to take it directly into them.

I did a little investigation on the warenty stuff from JD. If you bring it to the store they charge you a dilvery fee to pick it up and take it to the shop. You are better off just taking it directly into them.

Before I bought my JD I talked to the local dealer and asked why I should buy from him, since the price was the exact same at the dealer or Home Depot. He said that if two machines come in for warranty work or service, the dealer machine always gets in line ahead of a Home Depot JD. I bought from the dealer. Different dealers may handle it differently.

It's my new addition! I got the JD L118. I bought it from John Deere. It's the same price as Home Depot, but the dealer told me if you buy it from them, they put you ahead of the Home Depot customers for service work. Very nice mower. It's big! Thanks for info Moonshine.
