Been happening to me for 4 years now... those CHMSLs are a neon-based (or cold-cathode--not sure which) tubes, which put out the exact frequency as a laser does. Valentine is aware of it and supposedly working on it, but since you have to be RIGHT BEHIND them for the dectector to go off, you shouldn't have to worry about it.

i've got the passport 8500 blue and i'm telling you it's the best one i've ever had. i really like the fact that i can program the unit to not detect x-band. around here x-band is no longer used for traffic radar so it's a false-alarm nightmare.

other than podunk in west texas i don't think anyone uses x-band. if you know something i don't know let me know.

Terry programed my V1 not to pick up X-Band, mine also has the POP technology, I still need to invest in some jammers :D

There's quite a few podunk towns around this area that're still using them, and I've had a few hits from cops, stationary speed stations (yeah, supposedly they don't count), and some of the speed camera that're supposed to make an appearance soon are going to run x-band as well.

To me, it's just safer to have it, 'cuz as soon as the cops twig to the fact that you're ignoring x-band, they'll go back to 'em.

I thought that the V1 was the only way to go, but after reading that I'm more open to buying the passport 8500. I like the fact that the laser shifter can be integrated with the passport, but for only $100 more you can get the blinder M40. 80% effectivness for the escort blinder vs. the 92% on the M40 is a pretty substantial difference for only $100 more. That's more than double the laser protection.

Based on that test I think my choice of systems would be the M40 blinder with either the V1 or the 8500, probably the 8500 because it's $100 less than the V1 and it has better POP protection.
