I think we all do this, but I decided to post about it...

I get in the Lightning every now and then and think about how much my Lightning is perfect for me. Yes there are other vehicles out there that I would like to own and drive, but on a daily basis and on the occasional "pedal to the metal" basis, I dont think I could do any better.

But this post is on "Why my L is perfect for me"

I will post my mods below my sig, but from the new anti-sway bars, to the Wet Okole seat covers, the upgraded stereo, the dynamatted interior and doors, the engine performance upgrades, the bedrug, the snuglid, the hardwired V1 and M20, the driver door window down and up auto, the wheels, everything just makes this the most perfect vehicle. Its got a large interior which is good since I have a large exterior :evil While I have a few things done that werent done by Terry, they are very few in number. If I were to name best bang for the buck, Terry's mods head the list, the Apten, the C&L intake and plenum, the airfilter, the BRAKES, (yes the upgrade to the EBC's were one of the best things I ever did) I had one of my buds up here drive the truck, after having been taken for a quick trip to 100 and back. He said the biggest surprise was not the power but the incredible brakes. He could not believe how good they are. The hard wire upgrade for the V1 was a great one, low buck and took Terry about 5 minutes.. The ride is great, not too harsh not too soft. The seat covers, the Ford Mach MP3 stereo upgrade recycling in my Alpine amp but getting the Focal Speakers in the front with recycling my MBQuart speakers in the rear. The dynamat makes a huge difference in the noise factor plus keeps the temp good in there too.

I think one of the best things is that a couple of buddys of mine were talking with some guy at a bar. This guy was going on about his 99 Vette convertible(its stock). Well they jumped on his arse, and then called me to let him know they had a bud with a truck that would kick his Vette's arse.. :evil :evil
I was laughing my arse off... it was pretty good of them to stick up for me..

All in all, my truck is virtually perfect for me..it isnt for everyone, but it is for me.

My thanks to all those that have helped me get my truck to where it is today, a virtually perfect vehicle for me. Especially a big thanks to Terry, who has put up with my stupidity and also worked on it to the wee hours of the morning to make sure that everything got done and done right. :bows

Thanks for indulging me.. post up your story too, even if its not perfect yet, just say what is next to get yours to perfection.

The timing on this post is interesting. I was just driving this morning thinking about making a post titled something like "I love my truck!"

I’ve never claimed to be much of a car guy. I didn’t know the Lightning’s even existed until I saw the L of a guy I worked with. His was an unmodded ’01 and I looked at it from across the parking lot and I just really liked the way it looked. I’ve always liked the curves of the flareside bodies. After taking a look at the interior, I was really impressed. I had no idea what was under the hood until days later. Even then, it took me a couple of months to decide to get one. When I did, I didn’t think I’d ever mod it at all. I’m no mechanic and I was concerned about the warranty.

I was pretty slow to add stuff. I bought a PR Mild Exhaust not too long after pretty much believing it wouldn’t void the warranty. Sometime in ’03, I decided my truck didn’t get enough miles to worry about the warranty so I had Terry add a chip/pulley/filter combo. ’04 saw the addition of the Roush suspension and ’05 (so far) Hotchkis sway bars. I think the only non-PR stuff I have done is my hitch receiver and a sticky pad in the console to help keep my cell phone from sliding out. Oh and the hood.

Just before I added the hood, I was thinking about selling it. I wasn’t getting what I wanted out of it. I was always worried about getting tickets and, initially, I wasn’t very comfortable around the TALON folk. That was a “me” thing though. Since I’m not much of a mechanic or into modding, I just didn’t have a whole lot to say. After I made a few meetings in a row and actually was able to remember a name or two, I’m much more at ease. Not long after I was considering selling it, I was just walking toward it in a parking lot. It always sits way away from other cars and as I was walking up to it, I just found myself smiling and thinking about what a doofus I was for even considering selling it. And I knew I’d be kicking myself every time I saw one knowing that I had one and then sold it. Instead, just looking at it renewed my interest in it and I promptly went out and bought the hood. About a month ago, I went down the track for the first time in my life and what a rush that was.

I've considered a nice sound system a time or two, but it's hard to justify it considering how often it's driven.

I’m very happy with my L. Very. I can’t imagine selling it, but I have to talk Trish into this if it’s anything close to the concept.
