What are your preferences on Oil Filters?

Use only the Motorcraft FL-820s with the silicone anti-drain back valve.

Mobil 1. Stay away from the cheaper brands, or any not mentioned, they tend to really screw up your engine.

Anyone use the K&N oil filters?
My friends recommend the Pure One filters also but I read somewhere that their filters are very dense so they can boast about their filtration being the best.
However, it stated that too much filtration restricts flow.
It seems running 5W20 oil is thin enough not to worry about restricted flow.
K&N advertises they have the best of both worlds.

I have seen good reviews on the K&N filters. Issue has been cost and availability. M1's are more expensive but can be found most places.

I have not heard good things about Fram, ever. The Motorcraft has good review though.. I have stayed away from Fram for years now. (not trying to bash, just stating what I have seen in reviews)

www. bobistheoilguy.com has everything you need to make an informed decision.
Fram filters suck, period. Those new Vatozone filters evacuate as well. If you're not sure, and really want to be decently safe, get the Motorcraft, or spend the extra $$ for the better name-brands.

I think there's more to it than that. It depends. If you run a non synthetic oil and you change it frequently then almost any filter will be fine. If you run a synthetic oil and go 6-10k like a lot people do then you most definitely need a higher quality filter. I, myself, run the motorcraft synth blend and change the oil every 3k or less except in my wifes BMW. She gets mobile1 and I change it every 7500miles.
The longer the oil stays in- the more crap accumulates in the oil. The filter also needs to be more durable. Back in the day I used to run a high dollar system 1 oil filter that was rebuildable...waste of time.
