Have any of you heard of a race called the Silver State Classic? It's a timed road race that takes place twice a year in Nevada. It is one of the things that I will be using my Lightning for.
Basically you can run it one of two ways:
By speed class- You have a target speed and the person who runs closest to that average speed for the duration of the 90 miles wins the class. It's not as easy as you'd think. We took 4th of 30 a couple of years ago and we were only a couple of seconds off. There is a canyon section and a minimum speed of 85mph. Your speed class depends on 2 things- Your preferrence and your saftey equipment.
Unlimited Class- This is the "Hog with the big nuts" class. To run unlimited you have to meet all the tech requirements. There are a couple of guys who have bought actual NASCAR rides and raced them. There's some pretty wild stuff out there.
There are a lot teams that enter together such as Team Porsche, Team Pantera, Team Mustang, Team Corvette......you get the idea. A few years back there was a lone Lightning that was in the 145 class!!! That is sick. The guy driving that thing had to have cruised a long way at speeds approaching 160-165mph!
If this sounds interesting to anybody go to WWW.SilverStateClassic.com (http://www.SilverStateClassic.com) . I have never had so much fun at an event. The event starts in Vegas, travels 300 miles to a small mining town, and then ends back up in Vegas for awards and dinner. Its a 4 day deal. So much fun that we have actually gone to volunteer a couple of times too. They do it every September and May. If its not sold out, I would like to run in May. I'm hoping that some of you will research it and decide to go. You will not regret it.
