is that the D series or F series pro-charger. Is it intercooled. If its like A FR-1 or F-1R (not sure the exact model) then yes 10's would be easier, depending on tranny, traction, etc
I know a guy who I grew up with, who is on another forum with a chebby truck,
Keith Craft 408, TH400, 4_link suspension, fully Tubbed, 20 gallon fuel cell, FR-1 pro-charger, basically a chevy version of Johnny Lightnings truck. Anyways he hasn't been able to run consistant 10's.

Screwonbudnik20 did hpp build the motor for you?
screwonbudnik20
09-20-2005, 04:13 AM
To answer the question on who built the motor, it's quite simple I did. It's the only way I would have it as well. I know every little thing I put into it and I know that everything is 100% on the money. All the way down to each ring gap, ring placement, pin fitment, piston fitment, main clearance, rod main clearance, crank endplay, **** the list goes on and on. Needless to say it was not put together over night. Every part was custom made to my specs, FYI, just one thing these are no off the shelf pistons they are one off for my bore size I've got over $1000 just in pistons pins and rings, so I know I've got the best for my app.
As for the weight concern with me in the truck it is right at 4900, at Ennis and at the lewisville feed mill certified scales.
It is a D series which is already proven on to many 4.6L stangs to count to put out over 750
As for the heads straight stock navi heads and cams which have already been named some of the best out there and proven in stock for to support in excess of 800
the main thing is I dont want to debate the intricies of times or power, i just want to share some of my experiance with this project with the dallas locals.
I am familiar with the term put up or shut up so for now I am going to shut up, and continue with my project. here are some more pics for your viewing pleasure

Hey Chris,
Ran into a guy at the gas station tonight who knew you. I was filling up the HD and the guy at the next pump came over to ask me about my truck. We talked for a while, and he mentioned he had a friend who was putting a "Navigator engine" in his extended cab. He said he was a Chevy guy and didn't know much about Fords. :) Hmmmm....I said....is it red with Budnick's? Told him I'd met you at one of the HD get togethers, but that was when your truck was in it's old form. I want to say his name was Dave Reynolds and he knew you from Delta.
Small world....

Did his truck happen to be on bags. I do know a Chevy guy I used to chat with at work from time to time but I never asked his name. If it was him his truck would be a Champane(sp) color or something near that. Lot's of people at Delta at one time. Now we are no more.
jeff56
09-23-2005, 02:52 AM
Definitely not on bags, as it was a 4x4. It was on the other side of the pumps and to be honest, I didn't really even look, but it was either a Dodge or GM truck. He commented that it was his "tow vehicle".

It's alive, and it's purring like a kitten. The exhaust note is so much different than the old setup, it sounds so deep and peppy when you blip the throttle. Oil pressure is great a steady 45 at idle and jumps to over 80 when reved. Its pulls a rock solid 21in of vacuum at idle. I just need to tie a few things up befroe i get it on the street in N/A form for some quick 3/4 throttle up and downs before I finish up the blower tubing.
I hope someone on here will show some intrest in helping me with the bower tube welding and all. I only need to change 1 tube but I dont have a welder and this is something that needs to be done on site. Anyone with experiance is greatly appreciated. The tubes are going to be jet hot coated after welding. I don't know anyone locally to help me with this.

Awesome setup :tu:
Just curious why you went with a pro-charger instead of a turbo?
screwonbudnik20
10-13-2005, 12:14 AM
Well I allready was running the procharger D1SC with the 3 core sheetmetal race intercooler on the old 2 valve motor. So it was only a matter of time before the boost bug bit. And since I was going to build a motor I figured why not start with something better than the 2 valver. And since I allready had the blower and knowing that the 4.6 32 valve mustangs have been proven with a D1 to put out over 700 hp on to many stangs to mention it was a no brainer. I have been real happy with my D1. It has allready put my big ass truck in the 8.9 second range in the 1/8 which is very respectable. Considering only 360 to the tires did it. When my D1 does decide to break. I will send it in for repair, and while its gone replace it with a single turbo. Whe n I get it back prolly sell it. I think it will last me a long while though. I got a good one no leaks after a 1.5 years of floggin it. I think most will be very surprised of the numbers this thing is gonna put out.
screwonbudnik20
10-13-2005, 01:06 PM
Someone here surely knows of a good shop to do some quality welds for my intercooler tubes.
BC Lightning
10-13-2005, 05:11 PM
Sorry I can't help you out with the welds, but I'm sure there is someone on here that does do welds.
The D series is a great street series pro-charger. I think a FR-1 series would be too much for the streets and too much belt slippage. I love the way they idle with a nice little whistle :D . However, I think you will see more out of the truck once the blower goes and you go with a turbo. Thats the way I'm going to go. Root style and twin screw blowers just don't impress me anymore. Anyway good luck with the final stages. It should be a beast.

Very nice!! You will definitely have to apply the same attention to your suspension as you did your engine to get that "easy 10" you referred to. Power is just a small part of it. Non-the-less I admire your efforts and I hope to see it at the track soon. BTW, is it me or did you create a bottle-neck at your radiator?? That line looks cool but its so small it could'nt possibly allow enuff water to cool such a powerful engine. Good LUck.

There are reasons that radiator hoses are large diameter. If you assume that the cooling system hose diameter only has to be as large as the smallest restriction in the line, I think you might be in for a surprise or two. My $.02.

Well I drove it around all day today for at least 2 hours, of nothing but on and off the throttle, took it to 5500 about 10 times. It sounds and runs really good even N/A. I never even broke a sweat water temp never got above 200 and the Head temp never got above 98C which is about 15C cooler than my last setup. I have definatly made a good cooling setup. Not much way to beat pulling water off all four corners. Stopped by HPP they were really digging it, one of the cleanist looking motors they have seen. Manny said it is one of the quietest motors he has ever heard. He can't wait to tune it nor can I. We are gonna covert to a blow though MAF, he said I will be very happy with the results. They could find nothing that they thought should have been done different. I set up an appointment for next week to drop of and get my pipes done and the tune. Should be back in the boost here shortly.

Well I'm back on the street now with a decent tune. Thanks to Manny and Jeremy @HPP. We fabbed all new lines for the blower and intercooler. We also converted to a blow through setup. It drives great. And that procharger race bypass is loud as hell. The numbers are as follows 465/465 to the tires @ 11 degrees and 10-1 afr and 10 psi @5200 rpm. I will be spinning this motor to at least 6500 but am fuel limited to where I am at now. 60's are on order as well as a fuel cell to replace the huge 26 gallon monster currently on there. Going to switch to a weldon pump as well. Needless to say all were very impressed with the power put down low timing and low rpm and low boost. I am very happy. Now to improve on the fuel. Here are some pics. I still need to send all the piping to jet hot but here ya go.

Very traction limited with these 35 series tires on there. Anything over idle and it will not quit spinning untill I let out of it. But not a bad time for the level it's at now. Things will be changeing again on the 3rd of Dec. Will be putting in the 60's and turning it to about 6500 on the shifts. Numbers should be very good. Traction will come soon wainting on my tranny parts to arrive so I can rebuild it to handle the power.
