I see the tradition of blowing a lead at the very end is alive and well...

As much as I like Roy Williams as a player, he can't cover. Pathetic coverage on the deep passes to Moss. :vomit:

I would agree. I literally could not watch, cause I knew what was going to happen.....pathetic showing for a team that was clearly better than the other.

Here's a question I would like to see answered... where was Terrance Newman? Was he hurt?

You have Travis Henry on one corner, and he's been playing very well. Then you have Aaron Glenn out there on the other corner trying to cover the fastest guy on the Redskins team. Glenn is typically the "nickel back", so he should be covering someone inside... not out there on an island. He's also older and certainly lost a step. You _always_ put your fastest cover guys on the outside b/c typically they are the last to need help from the safety over the top. Roy Williams is not a speed burner. They didn't draft him as one. He made a number of excellent plays in the game. Granted, he was responsible for help-side coverage on those two long TDs, but if you've got your fastest man on your defense covering Moss, there's no way they score _twice_.

All in all, very disappointing, although the offense scoring only 13 points when they had the ball for 40 minutes is absurd. They need a new kicker too (as do a lot of teams). Cortez sucks.

Newman is always in the slot when they are in the Nickel for some reason. I think that they should use Roy as a rushing linebacker in the nickel D and put in another DB in his place for coverage. I was pretty damn dissapointed last night and I was dissapointed that I didn't get to see the ring of honor induction too. Oh yea and I also thinks its B.S. that the NY football Giants got an extra home game this year.

Adam,

You're right... I finally found it where they said Newman plays in the slot on nickel. Who am I to argue with pro coaches, but gosh I think they can make it too complicated sometimes. It is not rocket science (just like when you played at lower levels) that when you know it will take a couple of miracle plays to beat you that you put your fastest guy on their fastest guy. Newman is the best corner they have and the fastest. If you put Glenn in the slot and they try to burn him (assuming the receiver runs something to the inside, of course), then Williams doesn't have as far to go to help. I guess if the slot receiver runs a flag route, then you have your slowest DB covering a pattern where he will get outrun on as well with very little chance of help from the safety.

Whatever, the Redskins offense was inept all night (largely due to good defense), and everyone in the building had to know that Santana Moss was their only real chance to get back in the game. It was desperation time for the 'Skins and the Cowboys blew it. I put more of the blame on the coaches for a poor plan late in the game.

How about put your big physical safety on Moss and Jam him off the line and never let him get deep , by then we should be able to get to the QB. ARGH I was pissed.

I'm more inclined to go with your first thought... have him continue to rush the passer, and insert Davis or someone else as an extra cover guy. The first time they put Williams on Moss as a wide-out will be the last. Next time he'll be in the slot or in motion and Williams won't be able to lay a hand on him.

I'm a big Roy Williams fan. I just think, like even most good players out there, he can be exploited. He's a strong safety, and covering speedy wide-outs down the field in a track meet is not his strength (duh).

I went to the game last night and the place was rocking until the first strike deep. The crowd got back into a little then they strike deep again and you could heard a pin drop- except for that A hole skins fan with dread locks sitting a few rows back:hammer:

I love Roy but let him do what he does best (blitz and crack heads) and get someone that can cover. Gawd I miss Woodson back there

Another thing while I'm still pissed off. Why the heck didn't we have a fullback? I bet you bah gawd they have one next week. You take an extra WR (Price) at the expense of the FB and then only throw the guy one pass for negative yards? WTF Price is just like Terry Glenn in that he is our version of Santana Moss. He can go deep in a hurry! Poor offensive game plan. Oh yea and the kicker sucks. Also someone needs to work with Demarcus Ware on his pass rush technique. He was getting stuffed at the line every time. He is a very talented guy and he has a motor that doesn't stop. If he had a few moves he would be unstoppable.

I was at the game last night too. The whole stadium pretty much deflated after the 2nd Washington TD.

Too bad the cowboys missed the earlier field goal and botched up the halftime possibility. My friend I went with flew all the way from Anaheim to watch the game.

What a bummer.

You're right... no FB and what happens to the running game? It went down the toilet. The two TE formations didn't cut it. I'm not sure why they got Price unless they really have no faith in Crayton as a 3rd receiver.
