View Full Version : Anybody carry a 10mm?

I'm looking at buying another glock and was considering a 10mm. Anybody like or dislike this caliber? I am kind of looking for something to carry besides me G32 because of it's super high velocity. I know that the 10mm is high also but it has much more FPE than the .357sig does.
Let me know what ya'll think.

I had a G20 and it was great but it is a large frame and too large to carry in anything but full riot gear. The ammo is high priced as is the recoil. gary loves it though last I heard.

Yep, love it, carry it in a CompTac Ctac inside the waistband holster. I get my ammo from www.doubletapammo.com (http://www.doubletapammo.com)

Not only no but hell no! A 10mm is one big fireball in the subcompacts! Full size only please.. I sold all of my subcompacts they are USELESS! The midsize you have is the smallest functional weapon they make, period.

The 29 is not a subcompact. a 26/27/33 is subcompact. The 29 is a chunky sucker and the barrel is almost 4 inches long.

I have a G29 abd 20. The 20 is a little big to carry like Terry said. But the 26 is great.:tu: Its what I carry on me all the time.

I've shot the G20 some and it's definitely a large-frame pistol. Carrying my .45 Colt SS Gov't Model on hunts almost gets to be a pain, but it's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.
From what I've read, early models of the FBI Colt Delta Elites couldn't handle the recoil and shooters were getting "beat-up" by the recoil - hence, the impetus behind the .40 S&W (a short 10mm round).
The 10mm ammo IS pricey and a bit of an exotic, but has the FPS/FPE #s - it's definitely a hot-rod pistol round.:bows

:ron: I saw someone shoot an armadillo 6 times with a 22 pistol once. All the rounds glanced off of his shell and he went into his hole:ron: :D

And the 29 is a subcompact just a half stich fatter here and there. GLock only makes a full size and subcompact in the 10mm. Where as most calibers are made in three sizes full size 9mm G17, mid size G19, subcompact G26. Don't tell me about Glocks boyee:nono: :D .

If your looking for something small with a kick to it look in to the 357sig or the 40 s&w in a g23 or a little bigger g32. Cant go wrong with eather of these caliber's. I use to pack my 1911 Kimber around but after I started carrying the glock you cant go rong with the wight of the polymer frame.

The cost of ammo alone was reason enough for me to pass on the 10mm.

I carried a 10mm as my primary duty weapon for 6 years. Loved the cartridge, hated the gun. I carried a Smith 1006, and after it broke for the 3rd time I sold it and swore off the 10mm. The Glock is the only 10mm that will hold up to a steady diet of full house 10mm loads, and the G20 grip feels like a 2x4 in my hands, so I've never been partial to the large frame Glocks. It is a h*ll of a cartridge, though. Our firearms instructor used to hate it when I qualified with my 10. He'd wear ear plugs and muffs, and still bitched about how it sounded like a cannon going off. But it wasn't bad behind the gun. :evil

Do you guys all carry guns? If so, why? Is that normal in Texas? Not that I have anything against owning a firearm....I just never had the need.

Simply put Texas is still a cowboy state. Generally we believe in handling our own problems. I saw a bumper sticker once that said "I don't dial 911!". Not that I carry myself but I know some here who do. There are a lot of bad guys around the big city and now even more with the looters among us. Criminals are more aggressive these days and are not rational folks generally. The only thing they understand is physical force by way of the barrel. I think a gun pointed in your direction is as universal a language as giving "the bird".

Kimber Pro Carry II SS in.45 ACP is more than enough for any purpose -- this side of a grizzly bear that is
QDRHRSE,
Since we have had the conceal Carry in Texas, ALL of the violent crime statistics are down significantly --- bad guys think twice before attacking!!

Why, of COURSE we do!! And, for immigrants, each person is issues their very own weapon!! It's not a very good one, mind you, but it *is* required at all times, and must be carried on your hip. :d :tu: And if we find any immigrants (and this counts Yankees and Calis  ) without weapons, they are SHOT ON SIGHT!!

....all the ex dope smoking hippies in Sacramento have made the penalties for carrying a concealed weapon so steep that it just isn't something anyone here does. You can get a permit but its tough and really expensive. Besides, if it was legal to carry a gun here we would all wear kevlar vests as if they were a fashion accessory. This really would be the wild west.
The Californians that everybody makes fun of are up North towards San Francisco. Thats the really liberal part of the state. All queers-no steers.

The penalties here are pretty steep too, but it doesn't stop many. Luckily getting a CHL is not too expensive. You have to pay for a course ($45-$150) and then pay the fee ($140ish). Financial aid is available. I don't carry nor have my CHL, but I plan on getting it. I can't carry to work nor leave it in my car, but I still would like it so that it isn't such a hassle going to and from the range.

Carrying a gun is like carrying insurance. Just an inconvenient pain in the *ss until something really bad happens unexpectedly. When it does, nothing else is a suitable substitute. If I could predict when I was going to have a bad wreck, I wouldn't buy more insurance, I'd just stay home that day. Same thing with a handgun. I carry a handgun on those occasions when I don't expect any trouble. And it's only there to hopefully keep me alive until I can fight my way to a real weapon (long gun).
As for Texas, we still respect individual rights, unlike the Peoples Republic of Kalifornia. When right to carry passed, lots of naysayers predicted a rash of shootouts in the streets. Hasn't happened. If anything, people behave more politely in public, because you just never know who's packin'.

A gun might even be better than insurance. Just ask the residents of New Orleans. Somehow I don't see my Allstate agent showing up in a Bradley (or hovercraft) to transport my family to safety if the sh*t hits the fan.

I would really like to shoot both the 20 and the 29 to see the differance. I wonder if dfw gun has those models available to play with?
