I have had a lightning since last Nov. and have done some mods. (predator, mac intake, boost by pass, and mufflers don't know what kind on it when I bought it) and its still under warr. What kind of mods can a factory 5.4 handle before it shells out. It has almost 19000mi on it, I know some members have a lot more knowledge about this than I do.

Generally about 410hp and 520tq reliably
. Most of an engine's life is up to the tune and the driver. I blew up my 01 with 390hp and a 2# pulley. Rob ran 500hp on his stock block and 17psi of KB boost. It is all how you treat it and a little luck.

Come out to the Talon meeting this Wednesday night and you'll see a variety of trucks with different mod levels.
I been pushing 390HP/482TQ to the rear wheels for over 3 years with 90K on the ticker and it still runs strong and has never broke down.
There are a few in the club over 100k in miles and drive like they stole it everyday:burnout: .....cough...couch Jeffrey,Mike

LOL..........Rob never ran 500 H.P. on a stock block. Someone here did....but it wasn't Rob:rolleyes: .
Gawd...when a couple more years go by, you'll have that truck doing 10's in a head wind.

Me either 498.1 HP at less than 10.0 A/F(it was off the scale rich), but that has been fixed a little bit now. 11.3 A/F, but I no longer need a dyno with the wideband.

485 is close........;) . I just like to keep Terry in line when he's making entries in the history book.

Yup, and that number was off the scale rich in the 90 degree temperture range, the new tune is still rich at 11.3 but that is with a 3.25 upper.
I will put the 3.0" on and data log soon in the cooler weather.

Let us know what she does....:tu: . When I hit 500 H.P. on my stock block, I was using the Apten ported heaton. My boost gage showed around 18-19 lbs of boost, if I am remembering right.
It's funny that it was such a big deal back then to run 475-500 HP on a stock block. Getting a stock block into the elevens was even considered special. Now it seems like it is no big deal to run mid elevens and lower on a stock block....I figure most of it has to do with the tuning getting better for the Lightnings.
