Naw, seriously, those new Z06's are just flat out gonna rock! Those things with some minor tweaking(exhaust, intake, and traction), will be knocking on the 10 second door......ON THE MOTOR!

$70 grand is a chunk of cheese I realize, but you show me another production vehicle that matches the entire package(performance/handling/ergonomics) that this car offers for anywhere near that price tag. This car will hand the new Viper its ass, at $10-$15 grand less. Granted, the Viper is arguably more wicked in its appearance, but the ZO6 ain't no slouch in that department either.

Umm, lets not get to carried away:rolleyes: ...when it's all said and done, it's still a Corvette (albeit a bad ass one) how many average folks on the street are going to know the diff...they are to common place...will be like the Porsche guys, $150K car and most can't tell the diff between it and a regular 911...hell, how many people see your trucks and dont realize what they are...they make more Vettes in one year that they have in the entire GTS production.
Before I get flamed here...Im not saying the new Z06 isnt bad azz, just that they are not likely to go handing the Viper its ass by some staggering diff in the quarter mile
Besides, when your talking about power numbers like that...it all boils down to the first 60 feet:) ...and for the record...I'm not a fan of the new SRT coupe either...it looks too much like the Vette or an S2000...imho

Don't get me wrong, I'm not meaning to rag on the Viper. The Viper is definitely one of the coolest cars to ever come out of Detroit. I'm just speaking in terms of performance per dollar, and power to weight ratio in STOCK configuration. Production numbers and exclusivity completely aside. Hell, if I were driving a new $150,000 Ford GT, and a new ZO6 rolled up next to me, I'd be damn nervous as well.

The ZO6 is somewhat cheaper than the Viper(Base price-vs-Base price), and weighs several hundred pounds less, while rated at basically the same HP. Most of the rags are quoting 1/4mi times and trap speeds on the Vette in the mid 11's @ 125-127mph range. The fastest 1/4mi times and traps I've seen out of a stock Viper(2005) are in the low 12's-high 11's @ 118-121mph range. That's a sizeable disparity when you're talking in terms of car lengths. A car that traps 125mph will WALK a 121mph car handily from a 70mph highway roll-on(most common type of casual street "encounter"), EVERY time. In my book, that's an ass kicking. Once again, JMO.

We'll see what they're actually capable of, when people actually get them out on the streets and on the tracks, but if what the rags are saying is true, in terms of performance, the Viper boys had damn sure better be paying attention when a C6 rolls up next to them, because if they mistake a C6 ZO6 for the base car, there's a very good chance the Viper driver will be getting a pretty good look at the "lowly" Vette's taillights.

Once again, I'm not meaning to bash the Viper, it's just that the Viper is the most obvious comparison, being the only other American "Supercar" that can be had for under $100K.;)

Couldn't have said it better myself. It comes down to what someone wants.

Frankly, I couldn't care how exclusive something is. No one has one friggin' clue that I have a Lingenfelter twin-turbo Z06. It looks like a typical C5 with some nice wheels. Just don't pull up along side me. :) But that's fine. It fits my personality well. I didn't buy a Vette to be exclusive, but that isn't important to me.

All I care about is performance. Otherwise, I'd have never spent so much time/effort getting a Fox-3 Mustang into the low 600rwhp range. After all "it's just a Mustang" according to Viper, Vette, and P-car owners.

I drove several cars before buying my '02 Z06 new. I made my choice based on a number of factors, but overall performance (handling, braking, power, etc.) was primarily it.

Now the C6 Z06 comes out... nothing within $75k can touch it as far as showroom stock performance goes. NOTHING. Wait til next year and you will be able to get one for 5-6k under sticker. Still expensive, yes, but worth it.
