Its an RRA 16'' midgrip 5.56mm. Down here in San Antonio we have a monthly gunshow, every first weekend of the month. Needless to say you can get lots of stuff cheap. Saw some Olympia Arms and Colts I liked but this one really caught my eye and the guy I bought it from was local so he has been helping me get all kinds of other stuff too.

The rifle itself cost me 700 out the door. I've added the rear DPMS BUIS, 3x9 40mm Nikon Scope and a sweet ass mount. :beer:

I also have a tactical singlepoint sling which rocks!!

Thats exactly what I am looking to do with mine. Hunt some deer starting Nov 1st.

My neighbor owns a Deer lease with a two story cabin just north of San Antonio. Might even do some Hog hunting too. :tu:

I like to mostly like to varmit hunt at my in laws they have goats and the coyotes stay fat, I found an online dealer its atlanticfirearms.com I think. The ar-10 308 would be awesome for just about anything. I used to have a pre-ban PWA ar-15 but the barrel was only 16, but it was still a good gun. I now have the itch for another. God know what this world is coming to....

Killed tht one on a buddy's lease in Haskell Co. The rifle is a .223, as are all of my coyote rigs. The custom coyote killer I built is in my gallery.

They're a helluva' a challenge to hunt - very smart. Wild-boar, too.

Looks like I'll be taking a beating from the .300 Win. Mag. again this year. No time to build an AR-10 by deer-season.

There just aren't enough hours in the day...

Somebody at work today mentioned it was illegal to hunt with a semi auto weapon??

Is that true?

I looked on the txdw and it didnt mention that. Just said you cant use and full auto weapon.

Depends what you're hunting, but you should be good-to-go legally with the .223 for whitetail in TX. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/publications/annual/hunt/means/

I'd suggest you concentrate on tight shot-placement in the heart/lung region and go with some of the heavier "hard-nosed" 60-64 grain .223 rds. - but, the .223 rd. is just a little on the light-side for whitetail, IMO.

With the .223 tendency for upset with these high-speed, light-weight rds., you need a heavier bullet to also be more resistant to cross-winds at longer distances. What rate of twist is your AR bbl.?

It CAN be done, but it's just always better to bring more gun with you to the field for deer.

Capacity is the only law, it should have come with a 5rd hunting mag. Texas states no rimfire cartridge may be used to hunt deer so I guess all centerfire is okay. 223 is a little light for deer I would use 75gr or such DP ammo. Hornady makes some good heavy rounds for killin. I use the 308 for anything larger than 100lbs when I have the choice.

I have a 1-8 or 1-9 twist.. I keep forgetting :tongue:

I probably will use 60-64 grain matched ammo. Most of my shots will be 100 yards or less so I should be good with the .223

Hey if it can take down 180lb Iraqis it should be able to take down a 100lb deer :D

Semi-autos are legal for hunting in Texas, for any lawful hunting. Magazine capacity is only restricted on migratory birds. Anything else, you can tote your Beta mag if you want.
