I say 65 degrees or drive it easy when it is cold on the warm tune. Some trucks can get by with the warm tune some must use the cold tune. To be safe use the cold tune. Otherwise run the warm tune with caution and listen well.

what about on race gas, or in my case 100 octane?, whats the most amount of timing that should be ran

You would be real safe running warm tune and race gas in cold temps. The race tunes generally get 2-4 more degrees than warm which is usually 14-16 depending on mods. Generally cold in 12deg max, warm is 14-16' and race is 18-20'.

The problem is dilution with pump gas in the tank. There are NO good 100 octane fuels out there. There are some good 104's and higher. There is a math chart posted but when you are at the red mark there is still 3-4 gallons of gas in the tank. Most guys throw in 5 gals of 100 or 104 which still leaves you under 100 octane. Every octane number is worth about 2 degrees of timing. We stock 104 unleaded and 116 leaded race fuels at the shop. Race fuel is CHEAP insurance for your engine.

well i constantly put in 100 octane no pump gas, i fill up at the airport right down the road, but as in qualitly of the gas i have no idea, i may have to switch to some quality race gas

Terry, is there a fuel filter you reccomend!I am due for a change!I want to take care of one of your children!I was curious if you use anything different on the trucks you have modded.I just found this http://www.talonclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7736 I meant to copy on this thread.Too much work not enough sleep.

Motorcraft FG-986B fuel filter. Watch that AV gas as it is VERY harsh on fuel systems. It eats seals and rubber parts quickly as it is intended for viton and teflon systems in planes.

Does the Lightning not have an IAT sensor? Everybody on here talks about running a cool weather tune, but I never hear anything about that on the Mustang boards, even in the power adder sections. I know that my mustang has an Intake Air Temperature sensor that allows the computer to advance or retard the timing based upon the temps of the air.

yes we have an IAT - if you leave the truck stock the IAT works fine

If you run an agressive tune in the cold weather your engine goes BOOM

Happens EVERY year about this time

I was going to tell him the same thing. AV gas is a whole different animal with a different goal in mind than race fuel.

If using 104 unleaded, you can figure a 2 to 1 ratio of 104 to 93. Thats 2 gallons of 104 and 1 gallon of 93. I don't know what that AV gas has been costing you, but it might get expensive using the 104 all the time.

Rocks;)

yeah av gas is about 3.49 a gallon, but since my L isnt a daily driver i might be able to swing race gas just would be a track only or a sunday thing

Terry can get you 104 by the drum. Then you can do your mixing at home.

I run leaded gas in mine, but the idea is the same. I have a "street tune" with safe timing and fuel. I still mix in some 116 with it on the street. But I don't drive my L on the street alot. Mostly just an occasional trip to and from the office.

Get with Terry on barrel pricing. He can probably check the latest prices and have it for ya in a week or less.

terry how much are you selling unleaded 104 for?

i was thinking about this lastnight, when people mix toluene they say to mix a cap full of mystery oil per every 5 gallons of mix, could this same mixture be used in aviation fuel and work out the problems with the seals

It is 350 a drum plus 25 core on drum for 104. I sell it 7 a gallon same as Ennis does, by the gallon at the shop. I also have 116 I am not sure on its price yet I think it is a dollar more a gal or so.
