I am going to order one for my truck. This is the power cord needed to plug your block heater in and use it. Block heating elements are already installed on all 6L engines. Ford only included the cord if you optioned it or the truck was delivered up north to 7 or 9 choice states Colorado, Dakotas, Wyoming etc.. The manual says Ford engineered the 6L glow plug system to start down to ZERO degrees F. But they recommend thinner oil to do so reliably like 5-30W. I plan on running 15-40 year round. Most guys rig up the heater cord on a timer in the garage so it turns on automatically. Ford says it needs to be on 3 hours before starting in -10deg weather. I don't have the specs in front of me here but I think the heater is a 800 or 1200W element so it uses some electricity. It greatly reduces warm up time which increases fuel economy in the winter. It is a good idea to rig the cord so you can drive off and it will unplug itself if you forget to do so without damage. The dealer wants 50 bucks a piece I may be able to get a better deal if we buy more. The way my schedule is I never know when I will end up in a cold climate and wish I had the damn cord to start my truck.

This says 05-06 all have the element installed, you may want to check and make sure yours is in there. It is right above the starter on the passenger side.
2005 Block Heater Option:
All 2005 F-Series and Excursions with the 6.0 PowerStroke have a block heater installed on the engine. However, the cord for the block heater must be ordered as an option (code 41H). The cord is installed on vehicles originally sold in the following states: Alaska, Colorado, Iowa, Maine, Minnesota, Missori, North and South Dakota, and Wyoming. Broadcast Message 1512, 3090.

I'm probably interested. Consider me 75% in, depending upon price.

It's only money, Moonshine. :)

Methinks you're due for an avatar change, as well. :tu:

His is normally in a garage and I mine is normally outside as is Rocks and David I bet. I just don't want to worry about where I can and can't drive my truck for fear it won't start in a cold climate. The purpose of this truck is to deploy anywhere at anytime like the seals:tu: .
I can see the city putting up a power pole in the parking lot at the office so Brian can plug his truck in when he's there:D .

Actually, they have a 110 outlet in the parking lot for our old tac van, which was a diesel.

My only gripe is that $50 seems like a lot for a 6' length of extension cord . Maybe someone else could buy the Ford version and then I'll go to Home Depot and duplicate it for $5.

Thought about changing the avatar. Guess I'll let ya'll spur me into it. How's this?

those block heaters after a while are actually bad for the motors, if your afraid it wont start, leave it running, but as long as you let the glow plugs warm up for like a minute or so in really cold weather it will bust right off just takes a little while to warm up

Yeah though I may never need it I ordered a couple. I just want my truck to be as complete as possible and a heater with no cord is just stupid IMO.:hammer: Also getting half way to work before the truck warms up sucks. Diesels sound like they want to rattle apart when they are cold.

The cord is a very nice piece it covered in heavy loom and the part by the engine is high temp silicone cable. There are push pins that secure it along its route. The plug end even has a breakaway in case you forget about it.

According to my current electric bill I am paying @ 12.25 cents per kwh. So it would cost 36.75 cents to run the heater for 3 hours, 50 cents for 4 hours. That may be cheaper than fuel and wear time to warm up by idling. Also, remember that a diesel engine will not warm up much by idling. You have to use an idle kickup and you burn more fuel at 1200-1500rpm. The 6Oh engine does not like to idle with the EGR system active it is well documented to cause problems.

I can do that. Actually, just finished rotating those 100 lb tires on the big beast. Egads, talk about unsprung weight. :eek2:

Billy allowed me to raid his stash of Mobil DelVac, so this is kinda' a maintenance and upgrade week. :tu:
