Here's hoping you guys have a great event. I would be there, but seeing that it's twice as far from me to Temple as it was Hallsville, looks like I'm out this year. I'd love to come, just can't afford to make two 900+ mile round trips in less than 3 months.

I visited the Temple Academy Dragway yesterday and talked with the track owners. The track is definitely small with only 4 stages lanes, but I think it will be just fine for The TALON Fall Classic. The track was surprisingly wide with even a wider shutdown area. The shutdown area is kinda short, but not dangerously so. The configuration is similar to Kennedale; a small turnaround at the end of the track. There is also another emergency runoff beyond that which is approximately 50 yards long. I can't imagine any of us having problems getting the trucks shutdown safely at the end of a run. Linda indicated that they have 7 and 8 second cars that run at the track on a regular basis.
I arrived at the track at 2PM and the ambulance and track folks were the only ones there. I made a quick trip over to Salado with the little woman and was back by 3PM. The first car showed at about 3:20. Since I took my wife's Acura TL we decided not to stay, but I did drive down the track to inspect everything. Make no mistake, this is not Ennis or Cherokee County or Thunder Valley, but I think it will work just fine. If yesterday's schedule was any indication, we can have the track practically to ourselves if we are ready to run at 3PM. I even thought about just running our program during test and tune in order to get back home at a decent time, but I think we have an obligation to stay for the "official" race program schedule of 7PM. It would also allow folks coming from farther away, a little time to get to the track and make some runs before we race. Besides, racing at night is cool.
The track owners expect maybe 30 vehicles for the Olds/Buick event and maybe another 30 to 40 test and tune vehicles beside what shows up for our race. Let the smack talk begin. I plan on winning this thing and shutting everyone up. :evil

Temple Academy Dragway has agreed to print the following flyer and pass it out at their track for the next three weeks to help promote the race. If any of you want to print copies and hand out where appropriate, please feel free to do so. You might want to add track phone number or something like that because these were designed to hand out at the track only.

Link didn't work for me but it appears you searched "Little River". That is a town and not the track. The track is just south of Academy on hiway 95.
From I-35 take Loop 363 north of Temple. Turn left and cross over I-35. Stay on that road and it will become Hiway 95. After you go through the town of Academy you will cross the Little River(the river, not the town) and the track will be on your right.

As a non-Lightning owner I was pretty much ignoring all the TFC stuff, but it just occurred to me that I do own a vehicle, and a truck at that. And it has been a long time since I made a 1/4 pass. Would anyone mind a SD joining in?
Or I could bring the C5, but I'd hate to see it get spanked by all the L's. ;)

It's old, it's tight, it's bumpy, with guardrails and trees, if you have a problem it would require some skill to escape.
It's run by estrogen.
Good track prep to the 1/8.
It is really a 1/8 mile track if you are fast.

I didn't really have any problem with the track because I knew what to expect from my previous trip. I did take issue with the change in fees from what I had previously arranged with the track owner. And probably more than anything, really had a problem with their lack of concern about the issue not to mention the attitude that some the hired help had. They won't have to bother with us again for sure. :(

Wow - great news on the PB - I found the traction to be lacking on my F1's and on the stock tires on the supercharged 2006 harley of logans
I pulled a best of 1.99 on my truck but even that was spinning a LOT
How much did it cool after I left ? When did you run your best run ? Early or late ?
Doug
First pass, 80+ degrees I think.

My issue with the track had more to do with safety than prep. The part of the track that was prepped(the first eighth mile) was fine. I really didn't feel comfortable with trees along the track. The shut down was a bit short...but not as bad as it looked when first seeing it.
The track personal had something of an attitude.
Over All...worst track I have ever visited. Based mostly on the tree lined, very tight, lanes. I won't be going back there.
One more thing...I really would love to meet the two Joe Bobs that saw a hunk of unused highway along a creek and decided to call it a race track. This is what you would call, old school race track building...;) ....Texas Style...:rll:

I had fun! First time racing at the track, not bad... But damn it was in the middle of nowhere!

It's old alright, heard some of my older co-workers sayinig they went out there back in the 50's. It's the closest track to Austin but alot of us make the trek to San Antonio Raceway (On I-10 between Seguin & San Antonio).

All the pictures turned out blurry due to slow shutter speed. Hopefully, some one else got a few pics.

The pics look fuzzy .. Is it a focus problem or shutter speed ???
I think it may have been shutter speed but who knows..
Do you have the exif info on those pics ? Would love to see the details
