Hey guys,
I'm considering having a set of stock '99-00 wheels powdercoated or painted white to match my white truck.
Anyone know of a shop that could do this and would do top-quality work?
I've seen one truck that had this done (out on F150online a couple of years ago) and it looked really nice.

SixPipes knows of a place here locally that good powdercoating work.
They powdercoated his uper and lower grills on Go_rilla.
Might shoot him an email and get the info, I had it several months ago but couldn't find it noe if I had to.
BTW, I can't get to your homepage from the linkto see the pics of the Z06.:hammer: ...must be an AOL thing

I had the same idea a few months back but they could not match the white of the truck to the wheel. so I took it to get them paited they do look good but they are high maintness and they scrash easy when they are taken for flat repair.
I sold mine because I got some 20's and the guy treated them very bad they are all scrashed up.
I bought them from him and I'm going thrugh them again for my Nittos
But they sure look good

Tony2000,
Do you have any pics of the wheels?
I assume you had them clear coated? I would hope this would minimize scratches. I have one guy, and one guy only, who mounts and balances all my tires on all my vehicles. He is very, very careful and I tip him accordingly. So hopefully, they wouldn't get all banged up.
Lastly, where did you have them painted?
Thanks! :)

Thanks! That is definitely worth looking into. I'm not sure how I'll handle the plastic center caps, but I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

It is on the other side of town but I use Top Coat in Mansfield. Randy White runs it and he uses premuim powder and triple coats most stuff for a smoother show finish. He also told me about some shops that buy powder in bulk for cheap and he buys it by the pound to keep the quality up:tu:

Sounds like a couple of good places to check out.
I am not in a big hurry, and I need to research this obviously. Once I see some of the work the shops do, I will need to find a set of wheels to powdercoat...and I'll just keep my stockers as spares. Our Expy also has Lightning wheels, so having a few stock L wheels laying around isn't a bad thing for me.
Anyone have any stock L wheels for sale at a _reasonable_ price?

Cheapest I have found is from Diversified Products in Michigan $185 for 01's w/ ctr cap. Can't beat that!

My advice to you is make sure you change out those stock brake pads if you haven't already. They make to much brake dust and it doesn't look good on white wheels.
My wheels are painted with the factory paint (color code YZ) and are clear coated. The center caps were no problem, so don't worry. Make sure you let them cure for a couple days and put a good wax on them before you mount the tires back on. It is easier to wax them unmounted.
I have had my wheels painted white for over 2 years now and haven't had any problems, even though the 2 years ago was only 10,000 miles ago.

J.D.,
Wow, yours looks awesome! :D
Did you just have a local auto paint shop do your wheels/center caps? They look really good. I think painted with several coats of clear will look best anyway. It would certainly be a better color match.
Which brake pads do you use now? I have no problem changing them out. That's easy work for this grease monkey. ;)
If you're in Northeast, TX are you anywhere near the NE Dallas area? Maybe I could just enlist your paint shop to do the wheels. Mind giving me an estimate of what it cost?
L8APEX...I hate paying full retail (although, I agree that $185/ea isn't bad) when I'm going to be stripping the finish off the wheels anyway in order to paint them. BTW, you should be getting my Superchip tomorrow. I mailed it Sat. from Allen.
Thanks guys. This is very helpful.

Nah you're just cheap j/k. My wholesale cost from the dealer is over 235 for the wheel plus 35 bucks for the center cap retail is above that:eek2: Even the Chinese knock offs are near 200 a wheel. So 185 is a good deal comparitively. I will be looking for the chip:tu: Have Wayne find you some wheels he always finds a deal;)

Now what are you trying to say?
I bet you are thinking that I am racist, but you ought to know better then that. I wonder what you edited??? LOL, I'm not flaming though bro. You guys would be suprised if you knew what kind of friends I have. In my world there is no such thing as color....not even black and white.
WA 2 FST:
I live 135 miles East of Mesquite, so now you know how deep I am into Northeast Texas.:) A guy that owns a paint and collision shop in Mt. Pleasant painted them for me. I don't think he even stripped the factory paint off, no need to really. I believe he charged me 200 bones, but that also included painting my mirrors, and tailgate handle too.
I haven't driven my truck in almost a year (long story), so I still have the stock brake pads. Run a search on f150online or nloc to see what the other guys are doing for brake pads.

Nah, if you could get your truck running then you would be a racer:throw: You just happen to really like white everyting and live in the woods, nothing wrong with that:tu:
