Im lookning for a good Ford c4 tranny rebuilder, but im unsure weather or not the c4 in it now is fine. I know it went through all the gears no problem. New ones cost 600+ and thats not bad at all, but really I was looking to just do a rebuild on my C4 for my 69 torino or just go with it. Anyone know of a good tranny shop?? or have done it themself and can give pointers?
The tranny fluid was milky and there was a layer or soot on the bottom of the pan. It was replaced in 1990 apparently.
So what do you all get of this?
Nasty isn't it. Although I did wash it at a power wash before, is it possible there is water in it?

I would change the fluid and try it out-you may not need a new one. Does the fluid smell burnt? Somehow it looks like some water got in there. The C4 is an ok tranny. If the Torino is stock it will work fine as long as its in working condition. If the car has a 351 in it I'd look for a baby C6.

I just built a 250+ HP 302 (shouldnt get to 300, hope not nothing behind it will handle it). And it smells like tranny fluid, it all stinks to me, but yeah a little burnt i guess.

Water in the tranny makes for a long road of problems and corrosion. We have dealt with a few PeptoBismol trannies and they all had to be rebuild and serviced to get the water out.

So, a wise decision would be to rebuild it. But, since im a broke bloke, I'll try it first, and if it blows I'll rebuild it, or buy a TCI C4 for 700, good for 300 hp.

It depends on how long its been wet. Terry had an excellent point. For some reason the C4 valve body [the inside] is really prone to pitting when its exposed to a lot of moisture. Try it out. I give it a 50/50.

Yeah, thats my best option, I'll give it a shot. I should probably clean it out or flush it though...shouldnt I. I feel like a tard when it comes to trannies. Thank for the input though! :tu:
