I didnt' know a city could do this...

They banned handguns from all homes and businesses. Residents will have to surrender their handguns by April.

Sounds like the same crap that they pulled in the UK. Who's going to make sure that the criminals don't have handguns?

They don't want their kids in the military, but they are more than happy to have the military out there preserving thier freedom. This is why I live in Texas.

If a criminal wants to commit a crime, with or without a gun. The ban wont stop them from having guns or even using them. Of course we are talking about the gay capitol of the world. http://www.svtgalleries.net/gallery/data/500/supergay.gif

There is nothing worse than some of these activists. No military recruitment there, but they sure love the rights/freedoms they are afforded because of the military.....hypocritical bastards.

I forsee a long court battle on this one. The NRA is a powerful organization, they wont let this slide without a major battle.

It says that Washington, and Chicago already have no-handguns laws. You would think that the NRA would have fought these citys already. How are you supposed to survive in Chicago without a gun?

If the the NRA hasn't fought for these cities they certainly aren't going to fight very hard for San Fancisco. http://www.svtgalleries.net/gallery/data/500/supergay.gif

I'm sure they're basing it on California law. They say this new city law violates a Cali state law. It's likely that the Chicago and Wash laws were not in violation against their respective state laws. I don't know, just speculating here.

I believe Washington has an out of control crime problem. The crooks don't have to worry about getting their arse shot off, so they just do what ever the hell they want to people.

Texas is pretty secure against these kinds of laws. Most folks here would tell the government to stick it up their arse if they wanted our guns. Californians think of government as their big brother. They really believe the government is there to protect them and feed and cloth them...they live in LaLa land out there.

I figured out what causes earth quakes out there. It's the rest of the continent trying to shake that big flea off its ass.

The NRA is going to fight this mess. http://www.nraila.org/News/Read/Releases.aspx?ID=6839

Look at what happened to Washington DC and Chicago when they banned handguns there. Some of the most crime-ridden cities in the US.:hammer::flaming:

I really like the city itself and climate/etc. of San Francisco, but they've got some real whack-jobs out there! Dunno, I've been all over downtown SF, San Jose, Half-Moon Bay, Redwood City, Concord for a weeks at a time, but never seen any http://www.svtgalleries.net/gallery/data/500/supergay.gifs. Plenty of tree-hugging granolas protesting, though, off of Embarcadero and the Pier areas. I never got the chance to check out the famous O'Farrell Theatre. :evil

I need to get Elaine signed-up with the NRA.:)

Should I point out that Dallas has the highest crime rate for all major populations (cities with more than 500,000) in the U.S.? Worse than NYC, Chicago, and Washington D.C.

Not sure if you kids knew that....... Its only been on the news a couple of times.

If you saw it on TV....it MUST be true.

While we're at it, let's let Congress outlaw ALL steak-knives in sight and any other forms of cutlery in the wake of the whole OJ circus!

Outback Steakhouse and Benihana would be throwing "blank-checks" at Wayne LaPierre to learn how to get "The Man" off their back.

Let's go a step further, let's outlaw beer/liquor and ALL internal-combustion vehicles given the high-occurence of drunk-driving fatalities.

It's always been my FIRM belief...that humans and the frailties-of-human-nature are the weak-link and cause.

Not the "instruments" which they employ to wreak destruction.

Good god, I think Ronald might be right here........
http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/welcome.html

This website shows all of the national statistics for crimes related to basically anything at all. Both links above shown that crimes involving firearms are dropping, and have be for the last 10-15 years.

But Dallas proves again what a craphole of a city it is in that the violent crime rate is larger than all cities (other than D.C)
http://bjsdata.ojp.usdoj.gov/dataonline/Search/Crime/Local/RunCrimeTrendsInOneVarLarge.cfm

San Fransisco is one of the larger cities with a lower rate than most cities of similar size.

If someone kicked down your front-door THIS INSTANT ...how would you defend your wife, yourself and the homestead? That rolling-pin from Pier-One in the kitchen?

What is funny is that I am on the same side of the argument here.....

I only wanted to point out that the facts you were using were not as accurate as they seemed. Gun crime and violent crime are large accounts of the crime located within Chicago and D.C. (cities mentioned with gun laws). Dallas (no regulatory gun laws) has an absolutely awful crime rate and that has not changed in several years. Guns have no effect on the crime rate, if you base you argument on the actual data provided....

The fact that San Fran is a larger city with a small violent crime rate just proves your point that banning guns in S.F. is probably not the answer to curing any part of their crime problem (if you want to call it that)

Every large city sucks though....If I could move, I would have moved further away from Dallas years ago. But I get paid to work downtown everyday, so I deal.

I could go on and on, but its late, and I need to go find my rolling pin....

I try to not do anything that would piss somebody off enough to make them want to kick down my door. Not that it's not possible, but maybe a little out there. The traffic and house prices are enough to keep anybody out of San Jose.

Sometimes it is just a random act. I know of a guy who had the door of his house kicked in and three guys with baseball bats just started smashing stuff, including him and his fiance. They later found that it was done to several houses in the area as a gang initiation. The police said that the neighborhood was just randomly chosen.

....occasionally ice from the wings of airplanes falls off and hits cars, houses, freeways.....telephone booths, people.....it doesn't mean that we should all live under steel shelters. I have a really big Pit-Bull and a baseball bat of my own (plus my wife and 2 mean medium sized dogs). The #1 reason that I don't have a gun is my fear that it will be stolen when I'm not home. One of my buddies had a gun safe stolen that had 22 guns in it. That thing must have weighed a ton and a half!! I think that everybody has the absolute right to have one but since I don't hunt or anything I just don't need one. Actually, somewhere I have a 12 gauge that is kind of a family heirloom but I don't know where it is. My point being that you are probably more likely to get hit by lightning than have your door kicked in.....unless you live in a manner where it would be expected. I don't think you need to use fear of society to justify having a weapon. It's your right as an American to own a gun so long as you are not a convicted felon. It's that simple. It's not so much that I care about the attempt to ban hand guns, it's really more about the infringement of my rights that I'm concerned with.

I read somewhere (couldnt find it on the net) that Dallas has half as many cops as most cities with the same number of citizzens

.......and I also heard on the news the other day the DP will no longer report to non-injury vehicle break-ins.

Don't kid yourself thinking you have to give somebody a reason. I get to spend Saturday moving my son from the apartments he calls home in Austin. A couple of ass-hats broke into the apartment right behind his(read...they share a wall) and shot a student in the back of the head. No apparent reason...it looks like he made the mistake of being home when they tried to steal his sh!t. Two weeks before this...my sons window was knocked out of his car and his stereo was stolen. Three weeks ago... Gang Bangers went down the alley slashing tires and breaking windows out of cars. Focking worthless Law in Austin doesn't give two shakes of a sh!t.

I believe one of our greatest Presidents Ronald Reagan summed it up best: "Peace through superior firepower". :tu: I'm thinking that Mr. Reagan drew upon Sun Tzu who wrote that "The supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting." :tu: I need to find that book and study it - many lessons to be learned.

But, if the potential perpetrator(s) we might potentially encounter on the street are ignorant of my skillfully-woven metaphors from Ancient-History and persist in their nefarious endeavors, then it's time for "Sam Colt" to settle-up as a last resort.
