I always liked those bumper stickers that said.
"If you can read this thank a teacher, if you are reading this in english thank a veteran".:tu:

Today is a day that I spend thinking about both my Grandfathers whom served in WWII and are no longer with us.
My Fathers Father was an aircraft mechanic on a carrier fighting Japan and my Mother's Father was a bomber pilot fighting the war against Germany. He was shot down over France and spend the last few months of the war in a POW camp. Lucky for me he survived and came home otherwise I would not be here.
Both were great Men and played an important role in my life growing up. I miss them.

Thanks to all the Vets.

My Paternal Great GrandDad, Edgar Poe Brown, had brothers/uncles that fought for the Confederacy in Tennessee. I was lucky enough to remember sitting on his knee as a youngster and drawing on pen and paper. I remember he always liked his blackberry cobbler.:)

Paternal GrandMother's Dad, Iva Garrison, fought in France in WWI and was sent to state-side military hospitals after a bad Mustard-gas attack as he later perished.

One of my wedding usher's Dad lost an eye on Hamburger Hill in 'Nam and Dustin, at Hallsville with me, has served in Guam, Korea, and stateside as a medic with the Navy/Marines. Another groomsmen's brother is a West-Point grad. and is a tank-commander somewhere in Germany, last I heard.

I can't forget Eugene Sledge on Pelelieu, Carlos Hathcock's 93 confirmed kills in 'Nam, Cunningham defeating Toon over Korea, Shughart and Gordon in Mogadishu and the countless other brave souls throughout US Military history that have "given all" to secure our freedoms.

I know we have some vets in TALON, as well. Thank you.:bows

The TXCN news in Houston spoke with one of only 5 living veterans of WW1 in the United States, maybe the world. He was 107 years young. He has seen everything from covered wagons to space travel. He has forgotten a lot of things in life since living so long requires a lot of memory. He has out lives all of his family and friends.

As the son of a veteran who served his country in three armed conflicts, I have a keen appreciation for thosed that have protected our country with their lives. I'm also grateful that I never had to serve in the military, although I gladly would have if called.

USAF - Operation Just Cause & Desert Shield/Desert Storm. I can honestly say that my military service was the best time of my life. Thanks to all our vets. :tu:

My cousin is currently serving (Marines) and have just heard about his status from his dad.
Clayton has been involved with major operations for over 7 weeks now. He has had little communications. I've had two satellite calls from the field. He says all is well. No one has been killed in his company. They have had some battle injuries. His group has been taking it to the insurgents. He has been involved in the search and destroy. The LAR is the leading edge of the Marine effort to root out these pockets of terrorist. They go in fast and hard to recon and collect ground information before anyone is sent in for house to house. Now, every LAV in the LAR Bn has the ability to kick some ass. They all have 4 Recon Scouts in every LAV that can clear small areas when they are deployed from the LAV. Of course that is what a lot of these battles are, just clearing out some little location that is giving return fire. But the LAV itself can return the fire in such intensity that even a bigger battle can be controlled with a patroon of the LAR which I think is only 3 to 4 LAV's. That 25mm chain cannon can bring on some serious and continuous kick ass abilities.
