Nice! Isn't there a $200 tax and some extra paperwork on something like that?

It is based on a Mossberg Maverick for the local gun experts:rolleyes: . It is considered a AOW (Any Other Weapon) and is transferred via a $5 tax stamp. Serbu does excellent custom work in very limited quantities down in Florida. This is not a Saturday garage made weapon.

That is just one of the numerous classifications of firearms, weapons, destructive devices, etc that the BATF uses.

Don't forget the "E". Apparently, A, T, and F weren't exciting enough so they had to add explosives and make it the BATFE.

All kidding aside, I was wondering about the muzzle velocity of a shotgun with a 6 inch barrel. The reason for the 18 inch barrel restriction is that is where 98% of the muzzle velocity is developed --- between 18 and 20 inches. I know with a rifle one can expect to lose between 80 and 120 feet per second per inch for barrels between 18 and 24 inches ---

So if you go from 18 inches to 8 inches in a shotgun, with a nominal muzzle velocity of 1400 fps for 18 inches of barrel, that would put the shorty shotgun in between .38 and .45 velocity

Well, and we sure wouldn't want to settle for .45ish velocity, irrespective of projectile diameter or weight, right? :twitch:

Sorry, I couldn't resist.
